Sacred Sexuality: Sexuality Under Siege? (Part 1 of..I dunno)

Apr 11, 2006 11:04

eh, there was going to be a disclaimer, but fuck that. If you don't like what I have to say, you are free to not read or leave.

I was watching Penn and Tellers "Bullshit" regarding Prostitution, and it lead me down this path of thought.

a little background...I was (and still am) very interested in sexual energy as both a focus of my own abilities, and a tool in which to promote growth and (hopefully) improvement into the life of myself and others. I've been interested in the concepts of Sacred Sexuality and the metaphysics of how they work for some time, after I wrote a paper on it for school one year. I know a little about it (compared to the tons and tons of literature on the subject..) but I have a belief structure set up based on the knowledge I currently have, plus the knowledge I recieve when I'm doing my research.

I believe that sexual energy is one of the ultimate energies on the planet. It's something everyone can tap into, and something everyone can effect. Sexual energy or lack thereof can have a measurable effect on most people, including those who choose not to express sexual desire(in any form I can recognize at least.) I believe Sexual energy is power, and properly harnessed and focused not only does it have the power to radically change our lives, but it can even change the world.

That being said, I STILL don't understand why most people see sexual activity as dirty, or evil, or whatever. Considering the potential power of such energy, I would find it at least a little foolish for people not to consider sexual energy a potential avenue for changing ones life for the better.

During the Program, Penn and Teller were targetting the legal ramifications of legalizing prostitution, and how it can be regulated (like they do in Nevada) and made safe (to an acceptable degree) and I was just noticing how many people are seemingly dead set against the possibility of prostitution becoming legal.

I find this to be fucking stupid, and my logic effectively follows the logic of the show.
And that is to say that it was mostly focused on various religious, and conservative interests taking an interest in what I do within my bedroom, or another bedroom with a consenting adult, and how decriminalization of selling sex would actually make it safer, less exploitive, and easier for most people involved.

This got my brain working. The traditions of Sacred sexuality (in tantric practices, and otherwise ) is much older than even the U.S. as a country, let alone the moral and political clap trap that goes along with the very idea of sexuality in this country. Where do they get off telling us that it’s wrong to share sexuality/sexual energy with someone who is not our spouse/partner? Where do they get off telling us that we are wrong for sharing our sexual energy with people of the same gender (if that’s your preference.), and where the hell do they get off telling us what we should and should not do between 2 consenting adults behind closed doors?

Wow..there is alot of post here. I might have to do this in parts.
