Canon: BLEACH
Character: Nemu Kurotsuchi
Timeline: Chapter 423 - Post War
Personality:

Nemu Kurotsuchi is a very withdrawn individual. She interacts with little people in the series and stands in the background of Mayuri, her master, creator and Father. This is for a number of reasons. One is that Mayuri probably wouldn't allow (or care) for her to express her own opinions, therefore making the point of talking mute. Another is the fact that she's subservient to his Father's entire will. Her father's presence is commanding enough that she will not speak unless spoken to or if the situation is grave. This is evidenced in when she calls out for medical aid during Mayuri's fight with Uryu, and when she doesn't even speak while she's still caught in Szayel's tentacles until she begins to get closer to Mayuri's bankai's mouth. Another reason is out of pure shyness. As stated before, Nemu has only interacted with a handful of the cast. She is rather withdrawn and, during the brief glimpses we see her out of Mayuri's presence, she still remains silent. She rarely talks in the female Shinigami association meeting, and only speaks when she takes a photo of Byakuya (which is a brief butter). She usually has a melancholy, silent, demeanor. She rarely smiles or shows any emotion, but does carry a general aura of a serious gloom.

Her Master means everything to her. She's willing to injure herself (though not to extremes where she'd be considered useless to him as carefully demonstrated in the fight with Uryu), and, if it comes to it, die for him as long as it aids his interests which is seen in the battle with Szayel. She even saves Uryu's life by giving him the antidote to Mayuri's poison and quickly tells him to leave the scene at once because it will be investigated as a thanks for saving Mayuri's life. It should be noted why this is significant. Mayuri openly abuses her on multiple occasions and is exceptionally apathetic towards her well being (her nearly dying once in battle, almost dying in battle another time, and when she nearly died, he beater her even further). He regularly insults her and her intelligence, another explanation on why she could be withdrawn a lack of confidence. The fact that she'd willingly save the life of someone that spared him speaks a lot on her dedication to him she is so willingly dedicated to man that abuses her fairly regularly speaks a lot on her value of him. She does what he asks without question no matter how outrageous or dastardly it is. Nemu does whatever he asks (such as tackling a guy and letting herself get slashed, or sending three fraction that bought them time flying off into the sky) without question and soon. She does not say no him, ever. It's not out of fear of the repercussions either, as seen with her earlier adoration of Mayuri, it's simply out of a twisted, martyr like daughter affection.

Even though Nemu may preform, and not regret, callous acts for her Father (as seen by her lack of apologies while she does said act), she's hardly a malicious person on her own. She's compassionate as seen when she saves and help Uryu's life, and she's normally selfless in her tasks with others. She regularly helps Yachiru in her outlandish and childishly tyrannical commands. She made a series of tunnels underneath the Kuchiki manner, which is one of the very few things she ever smiled at. She also tried to take a photo of him for Yachiru. Nemu is so submissive, Yachiru implies that she is more liked than Nanao and is the Third Seat of the Shinigami Female Association because of how Nemu caters to her demands. Nemu isn't one to preform callous actions or to be mean on her own, something shown throughout the show when she's without Mayuri (mostly during the meetings of Female Shinigami but if one takes the Bount Arc as canon, she's rather gentle to Uryu). Also of note is Nemu’s mannerisms aren’t exactly appropriate! She seems ignorant of social customs. She butchers common idioms, and draws pornography for an idea as a cellphone design. She even doesn’t have a problem with making Uryu fall unconscious with her chest being pressed into his face. She also swallows camera film, and doesn’t really react. When Nemu is yelled at for these odd actions by someone that is not Mayuri, she simply just stares at them with a face usually, and mostly reads “ . . . “ though, there are some suggestions of a hurt look on her face.

Another important part about Nemu is SCIENCE! She absolutely loves the thing and is quite accomplished in her scientific studies. Though it’s not explicitly stated, she is quite knowledgeable about several poisons and is able to remake antitodes to Mayuri’s ever changing poisonous bankai. It is also said that Mayuri and Nemu are made of the same DNA, so their interests are similar. Mayuri is a man of science, it is his passion and therefore, it is logical that Nemu has similar passions for science. She just doesn’t pursue it to extreme levels like Mayuri. This is seen with how she makes soul candy for Yachiru and the results are a little cracky, but I guess that’s what Yachiru wanted!

Background: Nemu’s conception and related ideas (Childhood, her history, etc.) are largely unknown and chances are there will never be an opportunity to learn so. She’s a fairly introverted woman, and Mayuri gives no fucks about her past. What’s certain is that she is definitely under 110 years old, as Kisuke was in charge back then. This also means she was around during the Quincy Massacre, but her involvement in it is thus unknown.

Other things of her past are simply implied. It is definitely known that she was abused and mistreated in every way imaginable by her Father, Mayuri. Her resistance to Mayuri’s zanpakutou and most poisons indicates her either conditioned her to be resistant to the poisons (which sounds fairly painful, knowing Mayuri’s methods) or she was exposed to the poison long enough to get used to it. I’d agree with the first statement, as when a Captain’s Bankai is released in the Seireitei an investigation is launched, so chances are she wouldn’t be around his bankai long enough to build natural resistances.

Nemu is first seen when Mayuri interrogates Ikkaku. Though Mayuri tells her to be quiet and she notably does so. She does not speak or show any sort of emotion during the encounter.

Later, Nemu and Mayuri come across Ishida and Orihime. After Mayuri blowing up his own men, like every Tuesday in Squad 12, Orihime runs off with some guy in the 11 Division and Uryu stays behind to battle Mayuri and Nemu. When Uryu is about to launch an arrow, Nemu hastily shows up and catches the arrow just as it’s released. Uryu looks on in shock as Nemu hurls him off the roof while pinning him down so Mayuri can slash him. The attack succeeds but not to the extent Mayuri had hoped. Uryu’s arm was slashed, but Nemu was nearly vivisected. Nemu lets go, and Mayuri attacks and berates her for doing so.

Later on, Nemu interrupts the battle with Uryu and Mayuri to request for medicine, as she explains her lung is wounded. Mayuri, being the pinnacle of understanding that he is, begins to stomp and beat on her yet again. He tells her that her body won’t fail from that injury. Uryu tells him to stop but Mayuri explains that he has total dominance over Nemu and that she is his creation. His long winded speech can just be summed up as, “He knows what she’s capable of, etc. You can’t tell me how to treat my kids, I do what I want, etc.” Mayuri then slams her into a wall and Nemu just lies there, bleeding and paralyzed, as the fight unravels. What an exciting life!

After the battle, Uryu nearly kills him with his Super Quincy skills and Mayuri turns into liquid and escapes. Uryu begins to succumb to the poison but Nemu calls him towards her stating the antidote can be found in her Lieutenant’s badge! Uryu then tries to get his flirt on tries to accommodate her but she rejects any aid stating she’s fine, and that since her blood is the same as Mayuri’s, she isn’t subjected to the Bankai’s effects. Uryu hesitates to take the antidote, and this leads to a discussion about morality. Somehow. Nemu thanks him for sparing Mayuri but Uryu said it was an accident. Nemu still persists in thanking him saying that she’s happy he’s alive and Uryu is just as bewildered as the audience.

Later on, when Aizen and the chipmunks are revealed to be traitors, Mayuri and her are healthy again. She asks him if he’s going to assist the other captains in capturing the traitors. Mayuri, being a man of class, tells her he gives no fucks.

She isn’t seen again (unless you count that one filler but seriously who counts filler) until the Hueco Mundo arc, when she’s sent with some other captains and lieutenants to invade Hueco Mundo. BLEACH, not totally relying on coincidences, pairs the two mad scientists up with each other in mortal combat. Nemu gets injured sometime during the fight but we don’t see it because even the animators don’t really care for the poor girl’s well being. Mayuri generally derps around pretending he’s affected by voodoo until he explains he doesn’t. Szayel, being a man of fairness, takes Nemu hostage with an ugly periwinkle tentacle. Nemu simply states that he made a mistake in taking her as a hostage and he won’t achieve anything. Szayel ignores her, continuing a cycle in which her well worded advice is totally shut off and ignored. Mayuri continues to give no fucks that his lieutenant was taken as a hostage.

After Mayuri’s bankai has a healthy serving of Szayel-flakes, near this complete breakfast, Mayuri and Uryu begin to argue. Nemu calls out still attached and dangling from the tentacle, which is hanging from Mayuri’s bankai’s mouth, if Mayuri can free her. Mayuri, with his stunning amount of compassion, gives no fucks, yet again. She is ignored until her stomach begins to swell and she’s screaming and writhing in pain. Szayel begins to rant and rave about how he can be reborn and how you can’t get rid of him that easily blah blah blah blah. Your stereotypical “IT’S NOT OVAAAA” Villain rant.

He then explains his powers to the enemy and he leaves Nemu’s body, leaving Nemu completely drained and decrepit. Normally, the average person would die from this, but for some reason Nemu is barely alive and apologizes to Mayuri for getting the life sucked out of her because Mayuri couldn’t get her down from the tentacles. However, because Szayel drained her fluids, he also absorbed all of those lovely poisons that she has inside of her. Szayel’s mind is binging on every drug ever, and his mental perception is so high, time itself slows down so he can comprehend it all.

Yep. Because a huge, wide, desert really takes that much comprehension. Mayuri kills him then orders Nemu to help escalate the lab. Mayuri, understanding the familial bonds of daughter and father, remembers that Nemu is almost dead and he restores her through .... A method that’s undisclosed but is thought by Uryu and Renji to be perverted. Mayuri dispels this theory but considering how he raised a daughter that drew porn for a cellphone design, who really knows what went on.

Anyway, Mayuri orders her clear out the lab where they find a pair of bodies. He also orders her to dispose Pesche and that other fraccion with the ridiculously long name. She does so without regret and hesitation.

She is last seen, canonly, pushing a huuuuuge wagon single-handedly. Mayuri then brags about his achievements as he orders Nemu to set it up. Nemu, without a single second to spare, begins to erect large pillars single handedly. It’s as bizarre as it sounds.

She’s then on top of the pillars to create a point of focus for a Garganta, or a portal to the human world.

Since the Soul Society had absolutely no loss on their side, it can safely be confirmed that Nemu is back to her everyday life at Squad 12. I’m pulling her from this canon point because the war’s conclusion does affect her in both a knowledge and general objective of the Soul Society (and Mayuri by that extent, which turns into her objectives) and if I didn’t, that would mean she’s still in Hueco Mundo, which would be a bit odd to pull her from compared to the other canon points.

Abilities/Additional Notes:

Nemu Kurotsuchi is not your average Shinigami. The only item I’m requesting to be taken with her is her Zanpakutou, for practical sakes if or when her Zanpakutou’s ability is revealed. For now, she won’t release it.

Nemu has enhanced strength. She’s able to wheel a cart around that’s nearly 4 times her height and looks like the size of Mayuri’s Bankai. She was also able to set up the pillars bare-handed, could toss stones and arrancars with ease and she was able to catch a Quincy Arrow with just one hand, shocking Ishida.

She’s also exceptionally quick by Shinigami standards. Having fast enough reflexes to catch an arrow and outmaneuver Ishida. These two factors make her an expert at hand to hand combat, which she’s extremely proficient at. She’s extremely dangerous in combat, being a Shinigami lieutenant (and there’s also the fact that an attack with punches and kicks are also determined with the velocity of the attack as well as the strength of the muscles but this is the science geek in me rambling)

Mayuri has implanted several additional abilities and poisons that are a part of Nemu. The only confirmed one is her speeding up her opponents perception to the point where time itself is delayed but there are several other ones. Other implied ones are the same types of poisons that Mayuri employs in his Bankai (Which he changes quite frequently), since she’s immune to all of them. She can twirl her arm like a drill and move her arms at high speeds. This is implied to not be her only modification though, as seen when Mayuri briefs about what he has done to Nemu.

Mayuri has also confirmed that she is highly durable she’s able to survive her body fluids being drained (albeit she was immobile and barely alive BUT IT’S STILL AN ACCOMPLISHMENT if you get all of your bodily fluids drained by a flamboyant man who is part maple tree) and nearly being cut in half. That’s not something the average shinigami would be able to handle.

Sample Journal Post:

[ It did not take long for Nemu to comprehend how to use the PCD when she received it. She turns on the feed and blinks for a couple of seconds. She wants to observe the other current topics of discussion, as maybe that may get her more of an understanding on the place. She catches a couple of people from, but even she knows not to interrupt other people’s business. Eventually she sits down and takes a breath. It’s very clear she’s uncomfortable with speaking on her own, but sometimes it’s necessary. ]

My name is Nemu Kurotsuchi, I am the lieutenant of Squad 12. I request details on my arrival, the reasoning behind it, and this place itself.

[ Her face remains the same, unmoving. It doesn’t hint at any shock or angst or fear, which is unusual for someone who was taken from home and locked into this world. ]

Also, has anyone seen a man named Mayuri Kurotsuchi? If he is somehow here, it’d be very beholden that you give me details on his current location, and a method at which I can contact him immediately.

[ She’d ask what has he been up to if he were here, but knowing how Mayuri doesn’t really inform anyone about his plans and appreciates the secrecy around them, she decides she’ll find out for herself later. She ends the feed exceptionally swiftly without changing the tone in her voice. Socializing was never a strong point for her, and she wasn’t going to begin now. ]

Sample RP:

After adjusting to the life of Adstringendum for 2 months, Mayuri deemed it reasonable to send her out on a mission. He was running low on Gyaos to experiment on. With his whimsical desires, and the fact that Nemu is now there to take the damage and do the menial work for him, he chose her to try to capture the beast. Nemu accepted the command without hesitation and immediately set off past the wall to capture one. After all, Mayuri is her creator and the man who’s desires come first for her. With this, she felt obligated to accept the mission from her master.

Nemu was briefed was not notified on the abilities of the Gyaos other than a description and vampiric tendencies. After some brief strolling, Nemu’s eyes cautiously gazed around. The last time she was unaware of her surroundings, her entire bodily fluids were drained out and even she knew not to make the bovine mistake a second time.

“I wonder where could it be...”

Then, swarming from the trees behind her, a reptilian bat, dark as the night swooped past the trees aiming towards her. Nemu quickly leaped out of the way and rolled. She quickly was able to identify the creature as a Gyaos.

The Gyaos quickly charged a particle beam, which Nemu was all too familiar with, “A. Cero?” The monster quickly hightailed it and swooped towards Nemu’s body again, this time taking a slight swipe out of her torso. She quickly collapsed on the ground and buckled before rising back up. She even knew her purpose. She knew it well. She was created to endure as much pain as possible, and even something like having a tiny part of torso removed wouldn’t deter Nemu. She coldly walked towards him as he was chewing on her flesh.

Halfway towards the beast, Nemu caught something from her observations. The Gyaos was slower than normal. Nemu walked a bit to the far left before staring at the monster with a soft glare that indicated interest and hard thought, but not wrath or anger.
“So the poison Mayuri-sama injected in me still affects the animals here.” She was able to tell that his perceptions were spiked to a brand new level. The Gyaos’s nervous system was exponentially increased, to the point where its body couldn't keep up and lagged. When its eyes, furious with animal rage, glared at Nemu’s former standing location, her suspicions were confirmed and she marched towards it. She punched in the lower gut, knocking it out in one blow with her incredible strength.

“The specimen is preserved for Master Mayuri. He should be pleased with the results.” Without a single change of emotion, Nemu hurled the Gyaos over her shoulder (part of it was dragging on the floor) and began to walk home, as if nothing out of the ordinary happened.
