A Nation of Wimps
Parents are going to ludicrous lengths to take the bumps out of life for their children. However, parental hyperconcern has the net effect of making kids more fragile; that may be why they're breaking down in record numbers.

jeebus. what the hell is wrong with parents who try to keep their kids from getting hurt at all. you can't stop it. be there to pick up the peices. T tried to jump off a swing the other day. it was at the height of the backswing. she's not gonna try that one ever again. i got the bleeding stopped, put some ice on it, and we were back at the park. and she got on the same swing. she hasn't tried to jump off it again.

another thought on this: i've been alarmed for awhile at how quickly we medicate kids with problems in america. and when the kids get jittery or get insomnia from overprescribed add/adhd meds we give em benzos. and people wonder why our generation loves it's pills. and the ads disgust me. concerta made a fucking ACTION FIGURE. I love pharma marketing stuff. i really want an oxycontin clock. but look at all the shit purdue got into for overmarketing oc. they didn't make a goddamn doll (i guess it would be an inaction figure, look kids he snorts it and does nothing for hours). and that's the litmus test i think there needs to be for these ads. (meth)amphetamine and methylphenidate are schedule 2 drugs, the same as oxy, morphine, etc. they should not be allowed to advertise except to physicians. hell i think drug ads in general should only be allowed to target drs. ask your doctor about ambien. there was a time when you asked your doctor straight out for a controlled substance you were labeled a drug seeker. now they encourage it ( ... )
