Finally, a week without anything bizarre going down--and I can't believe I just said that. Bad Buffy! But seriously, all week I was half-expecting stalker Sly to come jumping out of the bushes at me after class again or something. But nope, just school, a couple of shifts at the Magic Box--Anya took off and left me alone again, but it was much ( Read more... )

"It's a belated birthday party... party, Buff!" I walk over to Buffy and take the axe out of her hands before giving her a extra big cuddly Willow hug. I'm not one for bein' cut into iddy-biddy pieces before I can give the belated birthday girl her gift!

"Tara sorta figured that since last week was horribly dramatic, you could use something to destressify yourself, even if that isn't a word," I roll my eyes and give her a grin.

"Aww, you shouldn't have! Wow, how'd you get...sheesh, like everyone and their brother here?" I hug her warmly, then start greeting the others.

"This is too much, and very sweet!"

I step forward to smile at Buffy. "Hey, Buffy. Happy Birthday! Let's hope this one doesn't turn into something horrible and full of property damage and personal injury, hmm?" I say, remembering the few years that I was around for her birthdays...they never turned out well.

"Good to see you, too, Cordy," I say, in my happy voice. "Please, we already had the Buffy birthday crisis last week."

Wow, this is odd. All these people here in one place. And you wanna know how I know I'm completely past the whole Angel thing? It doesn't affect me one bit when he hugs B in greetin'.

It's nice.

I move through the crowd and stop near Faith. "Hey, glad you could make it. Quite the surprise, I gotta say." She seems quiet, like she's watching the scene, or waiting for something...but it's so hard to tell with her, she could just be bored.

I nod over at Harmony. "She come with you guys?"

"Yeah." I smirk. "She was real excited about it-- go figure."

I glance around again, then back to B. "Happy late birthday."

"Thanks, Faith," I say. I haven't heard a word from her since she was here last fall, and I wonder whether all the turmoil she was going through is resolved, but I'm not sure how to ask. I notice she's way actross the room from Angel, so I'm thinking maybe not. "Uh, so how's stuff in LA?"

I slip in the front door while everyone is milling around in a pleasantly chaotic manner. It certainly helped having the slayer's sister working in the shop; I'd overheard her telling George she needed tonight off for a party. Perfect opportunity...especially once I saw who all were on the guest list.

I set the small package on a table near the door and wander into the crowd, mingling. Ah, there's Ripper, I must say hello.

*munches on an hors d'oeuvre*
*nods and smiles as people pass by*
*looks to the other side of the room near the kitchen*

Oh, dear, Angel's stumbled into Spike. This party shan't stay quiet for long...

*feels a hand clap warmly on his shoulder*
*turns*
*freezes*

Ethan.

*glances at Ethan's hand*

Kindly remove your hand from my person and explain how and why you're here. Before Buffy sees you and eliminates your ability to speak coherently.

Now, Ripper, is that any way to greet an old friend? I merely overheard Dawn say there was a party and thought I'd drop in to...er, pay my respects. Pity I didn't realize it was the slayer's birthday, I'd have brought a little something.

*Drops his hand and produces a flask from his inside jacket pocket.*
*Extends it toward Giles.*

Didn't know if there'd be any adult refreshments.

*Talks very fast very for several minutes until Giles gets distracted, and then slips back into the crowd to wait for the fireworks.*

I hate to be the party-pooper, but I haven't had a proper nights sleep in a while. And as much as I love coffee, I think my eigth cup today is already starting to loose its affect. Buffy's being all mingly, which is good. And someone put some music on not long ago (I'm guessing Dawn), an' Xander... well, he's trying. I've been trying to tell him he doesn't need to be stiff-upper-lippy guy, but there are some things you need to learn on your own, I guess. It means something that he's trying.

I slip away into the kitchen and busy myself makin' another cup of coffee. There's a few alcoholic drinks on the counter and I ponder going for one for about 2.3 seconds before deciding that I didn't want to be drunk-sleepy-vomity-Willow.

I walk into the kitchen to get myself a drink - also to escape Harmony, who is even more annoying now than she was at scholl - if that is possible. How the girl was ever popular is beyond me, but there you go - I have always maintained that high school warps the brain.

"I see we're the first in the time-honoured tradition of moving the party into the kitcen then," I say to Willow who's hovering round the drinks with a look of indecision on her face.

"Oh yeah, we're the 'in' crowd," I give Anya a bit of a smile, honestly not remembering the last time we'd spoken. It must have been a while. The kettle starts to boil and I start making myself busy. I silently gesture, asking if she wants a cup. "Having so many people in the same room, you know. It's... conflicting. Plus I'm not overly big on the neon sign out the window that says "All White-hats are in here, party-crashers welcome".

"But then again," I pour the hot water into my mug, "Who'd be crazy enough to try?"

"I think that that queation may well come under the heading of 'Please don't ask that', being that Buffy seems to be the epicentre of most things bad that go on around here." I pause - she had to ask that, didn't she - does nobody around here ever learn it's Buffy's birthday party for Heaven's sake, never mind the whole 'asking for trouble' thing. Why, oh why do I hang around with thiese innocents???

Anyway, I choose a change of subject.

"So, when do we get to give presents - I want to see Buffy get my present, I spent a long time choosing it and I am sure she'll love it - when do we do presents?"

Standing across the room, next to Fred, I raise an eyebrow when Buffy makes eye-contact, offering a smile and a nod. It's good enough to be back in Sunnydale, as long as it's strictly in the interest of visiting.
