Athena's time - Friday, 03/14/08 @ 9:30 am CDT

Well, talked to the regular vet yesterday, turns out Friday will be better for all of us (was going to be Wednesday), and I'm glad for that, because if they'd have done it Wednesday, I wouldn't have had any time to spend with her as their office closes at noon and they would have come to the house AFTER closing, so they'd have had to take her with ( Read more... )

I'm sorry you have to let go of your friend. My golden retriever Jake was 10 when I lost him to Mast Cell Cancer 3 summers ago. He eventually developed fatty tumors all over, just under his skin. Those didn't seem painful to him but eventually he just started losing strength. We built him a ramp but eventually had to just lift him up stairs and feed him all sorts of human food just to get him to eat. But even in his last days, he wanted to go for walks which got shorter and shorter until one day, he told us it was time to let him go. Even though I knew he was ready, it didn't make it any easier to let him go. The day we had him euthanised, I spent the whole day curled up with him on the cool kitchen floor just talking and napping with him. Finally in the late afternoon when the vet was getting ready to close and no other pets would be there to bother him, we drove him to the vet then drove back to my farm afterwards and buried him under his favorite mulberry tree ( ... )

The vet came to our house to do the euthanasia and after her spirit had left her body, the vet let us keep her at home till end of day. Where me and my b/f took turns napping with her and crying into her fur.

It's been the hardest thing I ever had to do.

My heart is with you during this more than most difficult time. I wanted a miracle for Athena as well. I know you heart is ripped to shreds and how unbearable this if for you ... I experience that same many years ago. She will remain with you ... don't forget that. Athena is a little love and will be missed by all that knew her. No amount of words will make this any easier ... just know that the love for each other will carry on & beyond this Earth Plane sweetness. Call me when & if you need me as I will do all that is in my abilities to help. I continue to send love and light to all of you.
I love you,
Shari
