on thursday, i went with lindsay to the free clinic in guthrie. when we walked into the waiting room, the only people there were a girl who couldn't have been more than a couple of years older than we are, her baby, and her friend. she let us hold her baby and said, "can you believe her daddy ran out on her?" and they were just really nice ( Read more... )

we talked about classism in my creative writting class the other day. The professor told us that in order for Americans to get a clear picture of the person they are reading about they want age and class. We are all just as age-ist as we are classist.

I thought it was interesting.

PS- Mr. Fry is out of town for like a week. Or something... He's so... Never there were I want to ask him anything. gawh.

Guthrie has the only all equity theatre in oklahoma. They host a huge folk music festival (which some think of as low class, but not me) They have a fairly high rated school system.
Their newspaper is ass, but it's not my fault. When I worked there, it looked great, just that there were only four or five pages...
I'm glad that you learned about those ladies, but I'm more gladthat you were open to the possibility. Although prejudici are bad, it is worse to have them and not allow yourself to learn if they are wtong, and worse than that if you wont allow even one exception.
anayway, good for you.

Good for you. I think a lot of people don't realize how classist they are. The students at FSU were the worst...I'd never felt ashamed before of my financial status until I went to college there.
