[Early, early Sunday morning, Buffy is at Giles' apartment and unshackling her chained prisoners. She is morose, guilt-ridden, and fairly worn out after these last two weeks. Her everything seems to hurt and she cannot figure out whether it's from stress or all the fights she has been getting into. Or maybe it had something to do with suddenly no ( Read more... )

[Look, a customer in Good Spirits. He sits himself down at the bar, rests an arm on the counter, and peers at the selection.]

So what's a guy gotta do to get a Gargleblaster around here?

[She puts on the patented Summers' Smile for a man who needn't know about the horrific hell of a week she has just had.]

Said guy's just gotta give me the recipe, I guess.

[Forced smile, is it? He won't ask. Besides, that's a normal week for them back home, right?]

You've gotta give Zaphod the shakedown for that. I just figured you had everything here.

What does it look like? I could definitely check.

[At least she is certainly sincere about wanting to fill your order.]

[ McCoy is already in Good Spirits by the time Buffy arrives for her shift and drinking a glass of bourbon, looking thoroughly miserable with something or other. ]

[She slinks behind the bar and props her elbows up right in front of the good doctor.

No words. Not yet.]

[ You think he's going to yield and speak first? Oh, hell no. He has two weeks of stubbornness to catch up on -- and he's enjoying this bourbon too much at the moment. ]

I totally don't have mom-hair, you know.

[With a bit of a pout.]

[Oh Buffy. Dear, sweet Buffy. Have some blonde company at your bar. She looks very uncomfortable, but will great the Slayer with a smile.]

I was hoping to find you here.

[Fearing the worst and eying your neck!]

Don't tell me one of them got you...?

Wha-? [She sees where you're looking.] No! No, I just want to talk!

I don't think I remember seeing you in the past two weeks. I was wondering if you were all right.

Depends on your definition of all right. Does being alive count?

[Giles feels absolutely disgusting. He aches all over, his clothes are ruined with old bloodstains and the taste of blood is still in his mouth and would probably make him physically ill if he had actually had anything in his stomach to lose ( ... )

[Buffy stands aside, her arms crossed. She also does not quite get what to say. She just avoids eye-contact. Focuses on the fact that it's over.]

[Has he actually eaten anything this past week? His mind and his body can't seem to agree - his brain is telling him no, his body is saying yes, but mostly he's exhausted and wants very much to go back to sleep.

Giles manages a nod once the shackles are off, although not one that's obviously directed at Buffy. His voice is quiet, and a little hoarse, probably from all the growling.]

Thank you.

[He looks so tired. Buffy frowns and throws a hand out to the Watcher on the floor.]

Let me help you to your bed, Giles.

Least I didn't do it this time.

[ ...spike. while that wasn't needed, it's rather appropriately you. ]

That might have been the straw that broke camel-Buffy's back. Three vamps were more than enough to deal with.

Maybe so, but you handled them as well as you could. Not like you could just stake 'em and get it over with, given that pesky not staying dead thing this place has going for it.

Oh, God. There was one staking.

[CAN YOU HEAR THE GUILT, SPIKE? Should she turn it up to eleven?]
