[Buffy is sitting outside one of the window's of house forty-seven, despite the rain. Her back is against the wall and she looks over her shoulder every so often--an uncertain frown bending her mouth. The room was empty and it was going to be empty every time she looked into it, no matter how much she expected otherwise ( Read more... )

Was it someone you felt you had to protect?

My kid sister. In a lot of ways, she'll be better looked after back home--but you know how it is. Everyone things they can do it the best.

I'm aware.

Although there is a chance that since she's been 'returned', that you would already be protecting her there, considering how time 'stops' and so forth.

In any case, that certainly doesn't make it any easier. I'm sorry.

She's home. I guess that's what's supposed to matter. No experiments, no kidnappings. At least, none that they can't handle back there.

[A pause, the tapping of the pen and then:] I was told that time stops, like you said--so is it really true?

I think it depends on what they're going home to.

Fair enough. I wouldn't say home was less dangerous, but I think it felt less...futile.

Luceti isn't a fate you can wish on too many people, but it really all depends on the person. You need to be strong enough to handle this place and see the bright side of things. A couple of other people can't go back home because they don't have a life awaiting them anymore.

You mean, like, people who have already died--like that?

[She's recalling a conversation she had with Aerith.]

[The second "Right" is underscored, as if in agreement. Then she adds in small letters:]

Good things can still be sad.

[She scribbles next to Aerith's words:] That sorta defeats the purpose of them being good, though. Y'know?

[She responds aloud.] I don't know...can't something make you both happy and sad? Happy for someone else, and sad for yourself.

[The vocal response startles her at first, but Aerith's voice is a nice voice to hear and she replies quickly.]

I think we need a whole new word for what this is. Something between happy and sad.

[He just heard, so he knows who Buffy's talking about, and his reply is understanding.]

She's a strong young woman surrounded with friends and people who love her. Not to mention, she's your sister. She'll be fine.

She knows how to be strong and take care of herself. She's learned that from you.

She was from further along, timeline-wise. Who knows what she's gone back to.
