Come chillin, gather 'round while I tell y'all a story. Get comfy, it might take me a bit to get the whole thing out.

This here story is about a Man, a widower, with two young sons. His wife died when his youngest was very small, and he's doing his best to raise his boys alone. It's not easy, but nothin' worth doin' ever is, is it? And he did have ( Read more... )

Boy, how to comment on this without spoiling the ending?

Um ... I think you really missed a key point at the end of the movie.

But nice comparison between the similarities of the two. It never occurred to me, but you're right, the core backstories are quite similar.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about, but other than those last 5 minutes , what I wrote holds true. I didn't wanna mention it and spoil the movie any more than I already did...

Wow, I had forgotten about that great film. Really interesting.... And strange. Wonder if it inspired Kripke at all?

There were so many similarities, I would be stunned if he hadn't. The dad was even a mechanic...

*laughs* Frailty was on last night and I didn't watch it precisely because of (what I could see from the blurbs) the obvious similarities between SPN and Frailty. I just didn't want to see this situation where the dad was insane and wrong and the 'good son' was nuts too. :)

Thank you for pointing this film out :)

I went and watched it and OHMY! I am amazed that K.&Co. haven't been sued yet - not saying that they have copied, but the similarities are impressive. And it is a good film, too, at least, I really liked. Sad and somewhat scary and sparce with the background details, but if things had gone wrong with the Winchesters...

Anyway, thank you! It was really worth watching. :D

I'm glad you took the time to watch the movie. I think Bill Paxton is one of the most undervalued actors around, and he totally rocked in this film.

And yes, the plots are scary similar, but I think there are (just) enough differences to avoid a lawsuit.

Bill Paxton was seriously good (I have seen him around, but I'm not good with names - this time, however, I'll remember him!)

I pointed the film to others, and they all appreciated it. Thank you again!
