Life Ruined

I keep screwing up stuff.  I can't even get a job as a vet at my hometown clinic where I worked for years as an assistant because I pissed off one of the vets there.  She hates my guts, and I'm not sure why.  I've wasted the past 8 years of my life.  Sure, I'm graduating in a month, but I'm one big failure ( Read more... )

I wouldn't go that far, I heard it was kinda hard to get into vet school.

It doesn't matter about how hard it is to get into vet school. That was in the past. I can't get a job now.

Steph, that's silly! You know you're awesome! It's ridiculously evident in everything that you've accomplished in life! Look at yourself... you're amazing!

Ok...so from someone who isn't biased...

Since I met you a few years ago I have admired you. You are one of the hardest workers that I have ever met. You seem to not only be creative, but incredibly intelligent. I know that it seems like the end of the world right now, but truly, it sounds like that one vet is extremely small minded and immature. Even if you did piss them off, shouldn't they be able to get past that and see that by hiring you, they will be hiring a sensible, hard working, dependable coworker?

Thanks to all of you for trying to make me feel better. But the simple fact is that your comments aren't going to change the fact that I don't have a job. That's my point.

Don't feel badly about not obtaining a job in your hometown vet clinic. Emotionally it is rough if that is what you had your heart set on, but it's actually better for your career because you will only ever be viewed as an assistant there, not a veternarian in your own right. It's just like always being daddy's little girl and never getting to grow up. This just gives you the opportunity to find a job elsewhere and establish your own professional identity. The biggest detriment to your job hunt will be carrying around this rejection. Look at the qualities you admire most in Rachel, and project them in your next interview. Determine if your shortcomings are really shortcomings, or just differences.

Failures are people who give up. If you were going to be a failure, you would have given up long ago.
