Graduation is around the corner. The corner being December. I've written my proposal and have to give it on about a week. When and if they pass me on that, graduation is just down hill. It turns out that the whole dissertation defense is not really that big a deal. The main thing is this whole proposal. I scheduled it in the afternoon though

yes, it's very exciting and nerve wracking. I just hope things go smoothly so I don't have to retract my december prediction.

i had my defense in the afternoon and they were indeed tired.

Yeah, the proposal is both written and oral. I basically have to give them sort of a dissertation of what I've done so far and what I have left to do then present it to the committee. Then they proceed to tear me apart for around 2-3 hours. So I've been told.

Supposedly, though the defense is not as bad as the proposal since they've already ascertained whether you're a moron or not. I think it varies by the make-up of your committee.

oh, yuck. man oh man.

one member of my committee was completely and totally obsessed with my notes. and all they said was stuff like "this poem takes a line from this poem," but he was freaking OBSESSED.

when my advisor was in grad school, he disproved one of his committee members. needless to say, that created problems for him for quite some time.
