I think it's the number four that the Chinese avoid because and "four" the word "death," as they say it "shi" in most dialects, are virtually the same. It makes me wonder if the numbers of morticians in Shanghai have extra fours in them, then.
I know Chinese people who paid more to the telephone company to have all of their respective telephone numbers include extra 8's as it sounds like the Chinese word for either Fortune or Prosperity, I can't remember which now...they say it bā and it comes out fā and that's where the tie-in comes from, I think. As quirky as that may be, it makes their numbers far easier to remember.
Congrats on the job! I know how stressful it can be to wait to hear back from some company that is totally judging your life until this point....let alone when that descion affects others. But congrats, I'm happy for ya, and I will be rude and intrude upon you guys when I drive through on my way to Birmingham... Kristy lives in Huntsville too, if you ever want to look her up...
