The English practice diary, day 3

What a hell! I have nothing - human forces, free time for all this stuff. To make you understand why it is so I am going to demonstrate one of my home work (yes! it`s a f..cking essay!!!):
BIG APPLE Very often in common life we heard the collocation “Big Apple” when we are speaking about the New York. People use this collocation over whole the 20th century but even now they rarely can explain it`s origin. The most popular version is that the first mention was in far 1921 in the article of sport paper. There are many tricky different interpretations why the reporter finally named his column “Around the Big Apple” but fact is that it was connected with a horse racing. Why? In my opinion it shows from one side that the life in NY is a kind of everyday`s run to success like the horse racing. And in parallel speaking figuratively the Big Apple is a main prize for all the champion horses all over the world. Everybody wants to get it. Allegedly Americans think so. But it`s difficult to check this assumption.
Anyway this image matches with my idea about the New York and American lifestyle in particular. I hope that a reader can forgive me that I do not consider another versions of the Big`s Apple origin. They are too boring and abstractive for me. I never used to be in New York. But some of my friends went there chasing their`s fortune. And they told me many stories about hard life in New York, but if you ask them how they are going they every time say “I`m fine”. And I met people who want to work in a New York and they thought that the main case is to not be lazy. And all the wealth of the world is going to flow to their wallets then. It is true as if the horse said that it going to win the race only because it runs fast. If to be honest everybody runs fast, but only the fastest can win. I am looking forward when they will join to my New Yorker`s friends and realize that the thing is not only to get the Big Apple but not to become an apple for others. Maybe I am that sort of a man who they call “losers”. And maybe I am fond of soviet propaganda about the common and poor people of New York. We really get used to a government`s over concern about social life of it`s citizens and the stories about jobless people in America scary me more than the stories about Moscow bomzhs. But we have no such high level of taxes and the cost of healthcare. Many guys can live without any occupation and money. Despite they do not pay for housing and communal services, they don`t lose their homes. You can`t do so in You York. Only if you want to live in some kind of social flat or on the street. But there will be always a border between you and other people. In the same time the most prosperous class in Moscow is a class of workless muscovites.
So I made a decision to myself that I want to visit New York but I am not going to taste this Big Apple, because it is really too big for me.
