OH MY GOD.

Saw a You Tube video of Michele Obama on Jay Leno, in which she said she'd gotten the outfit she was wearing at J Crew.  I thought, "Hm, I guess they've branched out from chinos and jeans.  I'll have to check out their website."  Now, I haven't shopped J Crew since maybe college (or even high school), because you could get similar things elsewhere ( Read more... )

I wrote a rather disgusted note about thier pricing and was informed that they have "enlisted the highest quality manufacturers & fabrics from Italy and somewhere else and blah blah blah..." and that their prices were what they felt was appropriate to charge for such high-quality materials and manufacturing.

Now, I should point out that the dress I got is strapless, lined, excellent quality material, very good contruction, and contains extra support (an elastic band that hooks in the back to hold the dress in place & some light boning - things which many strapless dresses are laking these days) BUT, I still think it was a bit too expensive. Originally it was close to $200. I bought it on clearance for $90.

And I understand about paying for quality: it's why I love LL Bean (though I prefer the outlet; I am my grandmother's granddaughter). The outfit Obama was wearing was probably appropriately priced. The $3500 sequined minidress? Well, I wouldn't pay that much for it, but then I wouldn't wear it either. It was just something of a shock to realize they'd gone from being Gap-like to well, it's not quite clear, but not Gap-like anyway.

I love their headbands, which coincidentally is not just the only thing I can afford, but the only thing they sell that fits me! :)

Your skull and crossbones headband is from J Crew. Mom told me that J Crew's stock went up over 200% thanks to Michelle Obama! Had Palin gotten her clothes at J Crew, I imagine there wouldn't have been much comment at all. While not Wal-Mart, it is definitely something middle class and upper middle class folks can shop at -- even if only at the clearance sales! :)

I do love me the pirate headband. I just can't get over the nearly complete rebranding that's apparently gone on while I wasn't looking.

I am going to post my comment to this on my blog so that I do not start ranting on Sleeping_Dragon's poor little blog...what did it ever do to me?

Feel free to visit.
