Hey! :D

(I'm cutting and pasting this, so apologies on its impersonality)

Hi! Thanks for volunteering to write a tutorial. I've put together everyone who showed willing into a tentative schedule which will give us 2 tutorials a month and a variety of subjects all the way through April. Please let me know if you are available for the month I have you down for, and if I've got the subject matter correct. Thanks!

December, 2006 - casting on/binding off
February, 2007 - bead loom basics
March, 2007 - advanced crochet
(Wow, I'm hitting you up for a lot of things. If you'd like to pass on anything or split something up into more than one tutorial, let me know.)

I'll be posting this FAQ to the comm once I've got the schedule figured out. If you have any additional questions, please let me know and I'll not only figure out an answer, I'll add it to the FAQ. Thanks!

I'll write a longer response later (strapped for time right now, and I have a tiny kitten vying for my attention), but I wanted to let you know that I got this message. I'm fine with doing the bead looming and the advanced crochet*, but for casting on / binding off...

I'm perfectly fine doing various forms of casting on (do you just want straight cast-ons like long-tail, cable, and provisional, or do you also want things like figure-8 cast-ons for toe-up socks?), but for bind-offs, I'm not sure how many to do (do you want picot edges and whatnot as well?), and I'm worried the fact that I knit Continental rather than English might make a difference. Do you think that will matter?

* Who's doing the beginner crochet tutorial? Is that hp5freak (I think that's her name? The one who did those absolutely amazing afghans in about an hour a piece?)? I'd like to know where to draw the line between beginner and advanced (and will there be an intermediate ( ... )

Hey, just checking in here. Are you still up for posting a tutorial on cast-ons and bind-offs in December?

The missing beginner crochet should be up in December as well, and also one on a technique in stranded colorwork. Next month is all embroidery stuff.

Hey, thanks!

I don't think English vs. Continental makes a difference, it's just Combined which throws a wrench into the works represantationally.

In terms of which techniques, I was tentatively thinking - casting on: long tail, backwards loop, knitting on, cable, tubular, provisional and figure-8; binding off: traditional, yo (the one with an extra yarn over in between so it's stretchier), tubular (this one's a bit of a pain), and the sewn bind off (yet another bit of a pain). If you'd rather not do this one, don't worry about it. I can do it, I was just thinking of spreading it out a bit as I've got 3 other definite ones to do, and possible pinch hitting. And there are some other folks who could do it too, if I can pin 'em down.

hp5freak is going to do a tutorial on working with charts with a small design component. drownyour_yarn offered to do the basic crochet lesson and actually, there's a version up in her journal already. I'm not sure if she intends to just move the tutorial over as she hasn't gotten back to me yet. Right now we don't ( ... )

HA!! I have figured you out! Also, not that you weren't sneaky, but I figured out it was you a while back--I got an e-mail from sister_coyote saying you were going to be late, then you yourself were off knitting_snark for a while, and I am good with teh maths, so I put 2 and 2 together. And I love everything!!! I am currently trying really really hard to not eat all the gummi coke bottles so my boy can have some, and the sock yarn is great, and (this is my funny story, but it may only be funny to me, and possibly my roommate) the Malabrigo you sent is the color my roommate bought last year, and I was secretly coveting it, and now I have lots! And I'll have to decide what to do--perhaps a nice wrap or something. And Lantern Moon is my fave place to get fancy needles, so I'm loving the DPNs ( ... )
