Cole snapped awake just before Phoebe screamed, since he felt the surge of her despair shoot through him. He was out of the bed, fireball in hand, scanning the room for danger. When he found none, he extinguished the fireball and gathered Phoebe in his arms. "It's okay, love, you're okay," he said.

He could hear the girls crying in their room, awakened by their mother's screams and possibly a little empathy of their own. Sam was awake and holding on to Phoebe as well, so he kissed her and released her to Sam's embrace. "I'll get the girls, I'll be right back," he said, hurrying to the nursery.

Sam had been slower to wake than Cole, confused and groggy, but the spike of emotion had him alert now and he wrapped an arm more tightly around Phoebe.

"What is it? Babe?"

Phoebe felt Cole leave, but it was the existence of that other spark she felt that had her clinging to Anders tightly. She was having a hard time forming words and for a few moments just held onto him as she tried to stop her hysterics before Cole came back with their daughters.

Cole returned a moment later, juggling two crying babies. "Shhhh," he said soothingly, rocking them gently. "It's okay. Mommy's all right."
