It's been a long time since I was in school, but that's one thing I always hated, that people don't communicate expectations clearly, and even if they do, it still often turns out that no one is on the same page about who should be doing what. I occasionally wonder if it would be better to go back to school and get some kind of degree, but then I think of this and go "ugh, no."

The part about this that's most confusing for me is that the syllabus not only tells us that we have to read, it also tells us to take detailed notes about how these things impact us and whatnot. According to the syllabus, we're expected to show up with a page of notes on each chapter. The first week, I can see letting it slide, but to continue past that point? That I really don't get. Not only have I never seen anyone else with notes on the chapters, most of the time when the teacher asks questions about stuff that was in the reading, no one else seems to know it. The chapters also have coding exercises. The first few weeks I did those on my own when reading the chapter but apparently we're going to have "lab" as part of class where we're going to do the exercises in the book ( ... )

Yeah, that doesn't make sense to me.

Ah, and group work, that's another thing I hated. Well, it depends on the course structure too; in some cases it makes sense, but in this case I don't see it being beneficial. I think that if you all have enough experience already, they should take that into consideration.

Ugh ... your teacher should communicate more clearly. That really sucks.

Plastic in the windows???

he sent an email this morning that he's been out of town and the next assignment will be posted tonight and he'll extend the due date. I don't know how well that will work, though, since we have an assignment due every other week.

They sell these kits where you put up double sided tape all around the window frame and then attach a thin sheet of plastic over it. Then you use the blow dryer on it to shrink it up so it's a solid seal. It's primarily for older houses like mine with single pane windows. It seals it up to keep the cold winter air from getting in.
