The Office has decided that all of us sysadmins need training in a vendor product that is used on systems that maybe three of us ever touch. The overt theory is that since we carry the on-call phone on rotation, the affected servers may go down when one of us ignorant ones is responsible, and the mail will not go through. Yeah, SJC to Redwood City up the 101, about 32 miles of lane splitting fun, fun,fun, fun for me :)

I could take Cal Train, but that 2x's my costs and adds 20-30 minutes daily to the excitement.

Bay Area public transit is excellent in some ways, but there are so many competing agencies with non-matching schedules, it can take a half-day to go fifty miles.

Well, there's a little Karma come home to roost. My manager decided to invite herself in for the training (which she has even less use for than I do). They didn't buy enough training licenses to include her, so she's sharing a workstation with a guy whose technical competence tops out at microwave ovens. And he insists on being the keyboard jock. I finished a 40-minute lab, and they were still trying to load the sample problem. Oh, well.
