He edged closer and put an affectionate hand on his arm. Kevin shrugged it off roughly. “Kevin.” Scotty tried to keep the exasperation out of his voice, to little avail.
“I told you I wasn’t ready!”
“That was two weeks ago. I though we were moving in the right direction! We have to start somewhere; we can’t go on like this, not even touching each other!”
“We touch.”
“Yeah, we hold hands a couple times a week like fourteen year olds on a first date! We’re married Kevin!” He shouted. “We’re partners.” He paused and his voice softened. We’re supposed to be lovers.”
“No one uses that word anymore. It’s outdated.”
“Don’t turn this into an issue of semantics! I know I screwed up. And I’m sorry! But you can’t keep punishing me like this!” His voice was plaintive.
“I’m not trying to punish you.” Kevin spoke in a small voice.
“Then you’re punishing yourself.”
