"No purchase" days work super well for me. You have a great-looking plan. I tend to plan out meals as well, and when I grocery shop, I only specifically buy the ingredients needed for the week's meals. I won't spend money on anything I don't have a plan for...I get frustrated when food rots in the fridge before I can use it.
I agree on the food in the fridge thing. We had a ton of leftover food from the holidays and I'm trying to figure out the best way to use it all before more of it is unusable.
I want to do more focused grocery shopping. I'm particularly interested in doing only one or two grocery trips per week, rather than running to the store every day. It cuts down on the number of not-on-the-list purchases I have the chance to make. So making a really good list is something important that I'm working on.
I take a piece of paper and divide it into several separate sections, in accordance with the sections of my supermarket: dairy, meat, produce, bakery, aisle (center aisles where you get your dry goods, etc.), so my one list gets separated into several smaller ones. Gets you out of the supermarket faster, too.
