From a news report from Reuter's I read, under Japanese law the operator of a nuclear facility can be granted an exemption from damages caused by a reactor if the accident was deemed to have been triggered by "a grave natural disaster of an exceptional character."

How much the human factor of gross negligence and corruption will colour that exemption will probably be fought in the courts.

It's precisely that exemption that led to me writing. Tepco hasn't even sorted matters out, and already they are devoting considerable energy to insisting on it.

At present our area is essentially unaffected. So we just have TV specials and news flashes.
