the eleventh vision

These past few days, I've found myself spending a great deal of time in the library. Uther had one of the finest collection of books in all of Albion, but his library is not nearly as extensive as the one here. Hardly surprising, I suppose.

In Historical Essays and Studies, Lord Acton wrote: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts ( Read more... )

I don't know. I don't want to believe the world is so bleak, but I have not seen anything to indicate otherwise. And I'm afraid --

Morgana's talk of politics called out to him child_radical June 29 2009, 03:22:39 UTC
People forget that they do actually have power, for it's the general populace who gives powers to the leaders. If they could only realize that fact then they could excerise a variety of changes agaisnt a regime that they don't approve of.

You talk of anarchy.

It's called revolution. It's getting rid of what doesn't work and replacing it with something that does.

Anarchy is creating chaos with no true intention of restoring any form of order.

And you believe that people with no background in governing, who know only how to work the land, are qualified to create a system that works?

Even where politics are concerned, I don't think that's anything that ought to or can be taken as fact. The people I have known or do know who qualify under some type of greatness are not bad. They aren't perfect, but no one is.

Where do you draw the line between "bad" and simply "not perfect"?

Me personally or is that a general question---a general 'you'?

Huh. I'll disagree with him and say all the great men are the wise men.

I think no man is born a slave. Or shouldn't be when a wise ruler is leading their country. Absolute power doesn't corrupt, what corrupts is the weakness in our character that lead us to take the wrong choices. A strong person is someone who matches their authority.

Then why --

How do you nurture such strength?

I'm not an authority in the subject, but the first step is become a ruler of your own life. You can't pretend to rule others when you can't master your choices, take responsibility for your actions and your feelings. That's what a friend of mine told me. Those who can't rule themselves, cannot be called rulers.

That's the starting point. First step of the thousand leagues journey.
