I agree. Book Three was the best by leaps and bounds, for many many reasons.

I agree with all your opinions but still cringe a little at your strong wording of them.

Today at the zoo I was talking to a docent who read the first book, got into the movies and then read the last 100 pages of the last book. I and one of the teen volunteers were a little scandalized.

I feel like people that will read the last 100 pages or even the very last page first just don't enjoy reading that much.

I hear ya. Book 3 was also my favorite, and I remember getting to the end of book 7 and asking myself, "is this woman serious?"
Your call of "exhausted slump-to-the-finish-line" describes it exactly as what it is.
