Premature Ejection, Vol. 2

Volume 2 isn't nearly as "edgy" as I'd remembered it, consisting as it does primarily of NME's heroes of the neo-post-punk movement. My biggest regret is including the overplayed (and from the wrong year) "Galang" instead of something by Okkervil River or Four Tet.

Your taste is impeccable, as always. I haven't downloaded either, since (surprise, surprise!) I already own so many of them myself. One surprising omission, I thought ... Brendan Benson! If you haven't heard Alternative to Love yet, hie thee to eMusic and get yourself a booster pack, because it's a late contender for my top five of the year. And this was a hell of a year. High quality, catchy sing-along pop-rock tunes ... this guy deserves to be huge.

Speaking of eMusic, they've been adding new high-value labels like crazy lately, and it's been very disturbing to my wallet. Dischord, Definitive Jux, New West, V2, ATO ... so many tempting albums to download. For 2005 highlights, I also highly recommend the new Marah album, The Spinto Band's Nice and Nicely Done, Tom Vek, and for pure cheezy retro fun, the Little Barrie disc (We Are Little Barrie). And for a "conscious" hip hop album that blows both The Craft and Little Brother's Minstrel Show out of the water, check out J-Live's The Hear After. One of my high school ( ... )

Thank you! I get so much of my new stuff from eMusic that I'm not at all surprised that you already have most of it. Things have been going CRAZY there lately. I saw that Def Jux signed on, so picked up The Perceptionists and Murs, V2's participation meant that I could D/L the Elbow album while it's still an import, and Bubblecore gave me access to personal fave, Mice Parade. If only Sub Pop would get with the program...

I have the Tom Vek album, but haven't spent much time with it. I liked Lapalco quite a bit, so will have to check out Benson's latest.

Whadayaknow! Twelve downloads left is just what I need. Consider it acquired.
