I have returned from abroad in the traditional manner - put my washing in the machine, bought a new sim to replace the one I inevitably lost while away, and reflected sadly on how much of my tan turned out to be general grubbiness. My holiday was well-timed because I have already acclimatised to the weather being far too hot and humid in West ( Read more... )

One of the advantages of heading off to live somewhere with very few shopping opportunites is that I can easily bung money to the tour company on a monthly basis over the next year without feeling a pinch. When I finally didn't get through the selection for the Antarctica job I decided I would just go on the cruise instead, so this is longer coming.

The Antarctic trip sounds amazing! (Also initially I misread 'enthusiasm' as 'euphemism' and wondered what 'below the antarctic circle' was a euphemism for.)

We tried to go below 66.34 IF you know what I mean!!!

Also, while I am in South America, I'm going to try to see more Aeropostale museums. They had one in Saint Louis, with a map showing the others. This means I "need" to get to Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Santiago on this trip, and also at other times Brazil, Mauritania, Morocco and Spain.

There is an Aeropostale museum in Saint Louis (Senegal) which also highlights a particilar French flying ace, and St Expury who I hadn't realised was a real life pilot too. There was a map showing the location of all the museums dedicated to Aeropostale. I don't know if they're all still open, and I imagine several of them will be very small indeed, but still worth a visit I feel.
