Because of watching Shameless on 4od (or whatever it calls itself nowadays) I am exposed to adverts which hasn't happened in ages. There is a Burger King advert which is all about having to actually say the word "Whopper" instead of being able to order a cheesburger or a burger like a normal person, with the staff refusing to serve you if you don't ( Read more... )

Weird. Burger King also offers a cheeseburger, and a cheeseburger deluxe (with lettuce, tomato, onion). I know this because it's the Puppy's favorite and there's a BK in the Seattle airport, so I'd often get him a whopper and me a deluxe cheeseburger when I was heading through there. That kind of stupid marketing makes me not want to give them my money.

Mmmm bacon sandwiches. I remember eating those at school in Wales, although if the professors caught us making butties (is this a standard term?), they'd yell. Apparently it's uncivilized to want your bacon on your toast.

That is what I vaguely thought - that the Whopper is a particular burger they do, but it's reasonable to ask for a more generic variant.

Butties is I think fairly universally understood, but I would associate it more with Manchester than elsewhere. And apparently Wales too!

The Burger King ad baffles me (I see it during Catch-22) because a Whopper is not a cheeseburger. Anyway, everyone knows that bacon double cheeseburger is the top pick at BK.

And now I've remembered the old ad with the jingle "As we say at BK: you got it" and how the 6th formers who ran the school tuck shop adapted this to "As we say at tuck shop: you got it." Quaint.

I assume that actual marketing bods know what they're about with this sort of thing, but I just don't understand how it will help. Wow, your tuck shop had thir finder on the pulse!
