A peddlers plays a guitar in front of the church doors, singing a song to the heavens.
He tells a story of people and string, and how people are connected through fate.
A lady sits in her dark room, writing a letter to a friend. She looks up every now and then, afraid to be caught.
Sounds from below scare her, but she must write this letter in order to be free.
A shadow stand on the roof tops, watching this corrupt city of sin.
It runs on the chimneyed street, waking children and rousing suspicion in the households.
It must tell the Queen what it saw.
It must
A wealthy merchant is set to be wed,
The town gathers to witness it,
By his side, his assistant watches,
Happy outside,
But dying inside
The shadow has reached its Queen,
And lifts its hood in respect
The lady in black bows to the Queen and her King
And waits for the fate of the town
The Queen is troubled
There is something afoot
She cannot interfere in the affairs of the mortals
So she sends her shadow to do the bidding
The King waits silently
The shield to his lady fair
He holds her hand and assures her
That what must be done, must be done
A wedding is set
The bride is here
She smiles to the town
But cries in her heart
The sister opens a window
And lets her letter fly,
Hoping a stranger will save her
The peddler down below catches the note
And keeps it safe
Oblivious to the noise and gathering around him
He continues to pluck the strings
A Noble is on his way
To a gathering of sorts
He sits regally in his coach
And smiles for the things to come
The shadow jumps from roof to roof
Must hurry, must hurry
The bride walks slowly, tears stain her cheek
The groom stands proud,
His assistant weeps
The stage is set
The Noble arrives at his destination
Tipping his hat to the peddler standing by the doorway
The peddler grins and plucks a few notes
The sister shudders as thunderous footsteps march up the stairs
The door flies open and in
Comes he who imprisoned her
A deranged man,
Lost in delirium,
Hair all askew and matted,
Charging at his sister
Who screams
The shadows crashes through the window
Knocking the man away, shielding the sister who cries
The man glares murderously, intent to do just so
He fights with lust, fights with loss
The shadow is quicker, and wittier
She pushes him away,
And out a window
The man crashes down
And disrupts a wedding ceremony
The people are afraid and confused
The bride and groom stop to look
The bride runs to the man
And gasps
She remembers him well
And so does he, as his eyes flicker awake
They promised each other their hearts
Not so long ago
The sister is safe
The shadow may go
The Noble smiles amidst the police
The assistant runs to her master
And the master holds her tight
Realizing he was about
To make a very grave mistake
The man is arrested and taken away
But the bride smiles,
Assured he will be free soon.
The shadow has left via the door,
And nods her head to the peddler
Who was there to witness all
The queen’s informer
The shadow walks into a coach
And pull her hood off and leans
Into the arms of the noble who loves her
And rushes off the report to the queen
The queen breathes a sigh
The tragedy has been evaded
For now
Her king sits assured
That their kingdom shall be protected
By the kingdom’s watchdogs who
Live as the city does
