Something that’s come up a lot of late is the subject of Capitalism.

Now, I’ll admit, being more of a Socialist, I don’t hold much truck with Capitalism, however, I can see it’s advantages.

However, pretty much every argument for “Free-Market Capitalism” misses several point and assumptions within Capitalism that don’t work-out in real life:

Hmmm... I'm very much a supporter of free market capitalism, but I also strongly believe the government needs to regulate the market to prevent the extremes that true free market capitalism creates. I suspect the real difference between modern socialism and capitalism is simply where you draw the line at how much government regulation is desirable.

The problem is that many capitalists seem completely unwilling to consider any alternative. That the "free-market" is a modern concept, only a couple of centuries old, is strange to them.

In any case I can't think of a truly free market in anything. Generally there are rules which benefit the economically powerful. Dumping of subsidised food by the EU and US on the third world is just one big example.
