I'd have to say "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." It's hilarious, it's got its allegory, it's got its silliness, loveable characters, and absurd humor.

Of course, most people have read it already.

(Plus, it's my humor so I appreciate it even more)

In that same vein, but less commonly known, I would recommend "The Road to Mars" by Eric Idle.

It's about a robot who's trying to understand comedy.

I LOVE the xanth series. Last I checked I'm still missing 3 books in the whole series, and there's nearly 30 of them
