Agreed completely. I dug Smokin' Aces way more than I thought I would (the same is true of Joe Carnahan's previous work Narc). It has that rogue "the critics hate me but film students love me and in ten years I'll be called a minor masterpiece" kind of sensibility to it.
true. it reminds me of all the great films that were made in the mid-to-late 90s as far as the syle and visualization is concerned. like Run, Lola, Run, Trainspotting, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Fight Club, etc. i think i actually would want to see it again to pick up on stuff i missed the first time around :)
I wasn't sure if I was going to see this one, from the trailers it was hard to tell if it was the real deal or another "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" wannabe. Guess I'll have to get netflix it when it hits DVD. I hardly ever catch stuff in the theaters anymore these days.
it's really great. it's the real deal. i don't think it was like Lock Stock at all. all the characters are really interesting, especially the Tremor gang. they are pretty fucked up but hysterical at the same time.
