So I brought this into work today because I'm loaning it to a student photographer who has asked me to mentor him for his photo project for school. He first brought me a camera the was completely automatic no sort of manual option what-so-ever. Maybe it's just me but I think he can learn much more by experiencing the "non-automatic in any way" ( Read more... )

Ach, I lack retro clout. My first camera was a Canon EF-M (the only EOS Canon to not have auto-focus). I did't start getting into the old manual stuff until I started shooting medium format.

So about when would you say you started shooting...I'm going to guess that it's a time thing. ;)

About 12 years ago. I'd played around with my father's Pentax (not a K-1000) before that, but I don't think I'd actually bothered to take it off of auto exposure mode ^_~

Don't they though. ;)

I haven't used this in forever but I just can't seem to part with it yet.

Well at least it still had fully manual functionality...hehe. Well I have had my share, started with the Pentax, went to a Nikon F2, and now it's canon all the way.

i still have my pentax it's a great camera. i dropped it off top of a jungle gym when doing a photo shoot it kinda crunched the flash area but not a single problem from a shooting standpoint the camera is bullet proof just a little scrunched on the top. after i set after it with a pair of needle nosed pliers that was fixed as well.

I started on the Minolta X700.... then after some years I picked up a couple of K1000 bodies and lens... which I sold at the Photo swap meet 2 years ago.

A great basic camera to start with I must say! But I HAD to have the X700 and the additional auto winder.
