My power went out today at about 3 pm. It snowed, and apparently something in the Seattle City Light distribution grid broke. My brothers heard four bangs and saw some flashes. I didn't, but that's probably because I was listening to music. :)

Projection flaw
I've been looking all over Google for this, and I'm having no luck at all. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Sometimes when I'm watching a movie in a theatre, there will be a defect in the upper-right corner. It's a black ellipse, with a slightly spiky orange halo. The ellipse has an aspect ratio of about 3:2. It appears for just one ( Read more... ) -
Overheard XII
Someone on my bus today was discussing her career with another person. Apparently, she's worked in UW Publications Services for the past 39 years. That's intense. It takes a certain kind of person to operate copy machines for nearly four decades. I don't have any fear that I'll turn out like that.

I'm going to stay off IRC for a few weeks. I'm now addicted, and I ought to take a break. Furthermore, I don't like how I'm being treated in a few channels.

How to abuse C
There are several C operators that you've never heard of. My favorite is the "goes toward" operator, though the lexer tester and the cast-to-bool are good.

It's gone too far
Every time I try to set things aright, it turns out that I'm mistaken in an assumption. I flail about to straighten what feels crooked, and it just ends up more crooked. I've been telling myself that I'm going to do that one simple action for weeks now, with no effect. I'm doing it right now.
