A question for those that might follow news/politics.

Al Franken recently was declared the winner of the Senatorial race in Minnesota. So, he's like the most freshmen of Senators. Today, I see he's on the judiciary committee chatting with the "wise latina" up for the Supreme Court. Is it because he's a "celebrity" senator, that he's on such an important committee literally days after geting to ( Read more... )

Did Franken get special treatment because of his celebrity status? There's really no way to know, but I seriously doubt it. The Senate is full of egomaniacs who all consider themselves to be celebrities in their own right and most of whom believe they ought to be president. I don't think any of them would defer to or give up the privileges of seniority to a c-lister like Franken.

BTW, this post and your recent Hillary one seem like perfect fodder for the Boot & Musket Blog. Did you guys give up on that already? After being promised an online revolution, I visited over there expecting to find the Spirit of '76, but instead it looks like the project petered out before you even got to the Beer Hall Putsch stage.

Yeah, our 'webmaster" Jeff has managed to f**k up the blog and is supposedly setting us up on another site that is "better". I'm not too friggin' thrilled about the whole thing because I thought Boot & Musket was fine, but... I'm just the semi-crazed voice from the right of center, what do I know. But yes, the post would have went there first. As Jeff likes to say its "under construction"...pisses me off.

I was just suprised to see Franken on such a high profile deal and getting so much media after being in Washington for only days. Well... maybe not so suprised that he's getting the press, I'll bet he'll be a "media darling".

So, Jeff tells me this is the new site.... I liked Boot and Musket better, frankly... but I'll still contribute. Maybe we could talk you into contributing too, VJ.

"One World Planet?" Sounds kind of touchy-feely and New Age. Hippie-ish, even.

Anyway, I just visited. It looks like the focus has been expanded to include showbiz as well as politics. Or is it going to be about a little bit of everything?
