Hrm. I don't not like Amiel 2.0 - it's just that I liked Amiel 1.0 better. It was kind of interesting when she was the only 'regular Joe' among a whole host of superbeast things, and yet she could still take care of herself.
Except for when she was being pounced on in showers, but.
I did often note to guindo how amusing it was that Amiel was the only character who had the same template from chapter 2 through 10.
Was Amiel 2.0 a good idea? I don't know. It's one of the things I wanted to happen so 11 wouldn't feel like "filler", because it was an optional chapter. I wanted big things to still happen, and this felt like a great chance to finally develop and fix Amiel's character.
Would you believe someone wanted Amiel to kill Jiniki and Iiji and take her place as the final boss? I don't really think I would have pleased everyone in any case...
I spent hours on the update where she realizes her weakness and defeats MJ on the hope that it would be this huge redeeming moment for her, but it would seem that didn't end up happening. It's a shame-- I actually felt moved when drawing her with a single tear realizing her flaw.
Oh well. I don't think I can deus ex machina her back to 1.0 during the fight with Iiji, so now I get to figure out how Iiji's not going to die/be saved in one update 8|
I don't think the impact was what it could have been - at least for me, anyways - because I didn't believe Amiel actually needed to be redeemed in the first place. Sure, she had her issues when she was Amiel 1.0, but who doesn't? Lots of people have the same attitude problems she did, and often don't end up coming to terms with it ever - when things go wrong, they blame anyone other than themselves, but more often than not, it's not a dealbreaker for many people. She wasn't perfect. Nobody is.
And besides that, we already knew Majibeastin' caused insanity to some degree, so it was almost given that she would experience some of it, too. To me, that was what needing fixing, rather than some other aspect of her personality.
I've always been a fan of strong, independent wimmens, though (hi Samus ilu), so she probably just endears herself to me by being that in a way, and I'm willing to overlook other potentially grating aspects of her.
D-oh. I keep falling into the trap of thinking something's wrong if people dislike things about a character.
You're right. I shouldn't have felt Amiel needed anything fixed in the first place. She's flawed-- ALL people are flawed. All that really needed fixing was some of my general writing, which I think has improved a little on its own.
I'll be honest. Amiel was always meant to be a strong woman. That's what I was intending from the start. Thing is, someone noted that she actually seemed like a weak character, so I felt like I made a HUGE mistake that needed fixing.
At this rate people might realize I don't know what I'm doing! D:
I appreciate you taking the time to type out your thoughts (and read my lengthy replies), because I was almost going to keep trying to fix a problem that wasn't broken in the first place.
Yeah, I'd kinda expect the story to last a decent bit beyond Iiji, because there ARE still a number of other problems (for starters, where exactly are they and how do they get home, do they want to go home, other Ki-Jaara or even Klis-khar around the facility, Tayza's pack
( ... )
Tayza wasn't originally female until I randomly decided (in chapter 5 I think?) to make Sekani the only male for some reason. It had to do with Iiji's original motivation (I NEEDS A MATE), but I decided since that this was stupid so she has a brand new one now. Oh well, Tayza gets to be a badass girl instead
( ... )
Heh nice alignment choice....

HEY SLINK! u do know what D@D players refer to the chaotic good alignment as right? The douche alignment or so I've heard... I'm just glad D@D went free to play no more wondering what of my 20 trail accounts is the one with time left. *For the people who don't know D@D is dungeons and dragons honestly how much of an idiot do u have to be to not know that?* END OF LINE.

I've been told "Chaotic neutral" is the alignment also known as "Chaotic stupid"
But I'm basing the alignments on what the characters do, instead of vice-versa, so they only apply in the loosest sense.
