I wanted to thank everyone who commented on my last post for all the awesome information and tips! Jonny and I have been looking around at tank set-ups and prices. Unfortunately, we will have to wait till our son's 2nd birthday or Christmas before we can go ahead with the project. Too many medical bills to pay this year with the new baby coming,

Wow, that is a lot to think about... I'm researching lots of hearty fish that live together well, and they are all compatible with live plants. If we decide to go for it with live plants I'll probably take you up on those Java Ferns. :)
One more question: Would it be bad for the fish/water if we started with fake plants, and then changed to live ones later?

I have both. :D Lots and lots of fake plants, and two real ones. The real ones are new, though, so I'm waiting to see if they'll flourish or not...

But the fake ones seem to be just fine. :D

I've been looking around online and the fake stuff they have now looks a lot better than it used to. c_c
Let me know how those live plants do though!
