It was a crazy vacation, but fun. The trip up wasn't bad at all even though Peanut didn't sleep as much as I thought he would. We stopped at a rest stop so he could stretch his legs, and again for dinner. Those stops helped a lot. The hotel was really nice, and we were able to save money and take our own food because the room had a fridge. We couldn't take a crib, so we made a pillows-under-sheet barrier on the 2nd bed at the hotel room and he slept great every night! No falling out or climbing out in the night, or waking up from all the noises. Thank goodness for his little wave-sound machine. ^_^
Friday we went to Tybee Island beach, just off the pier. It was a 50min drive, but we were all excited and happy. We lathered on the sunscreen and set up base on the beach not too far from the water. Tiny waves compared to California, just about 4ft. at the highest. Peanut had no fear, he just ran right for the water! Jonny took him out deeper (holding him), and would let him dangle down to splash at the water then pull him up out of a wave's reach at the last second. We all got drenched, but the water was the perfect temperature. We also sat in the shallows as tiny waves came in and watched Peanut throw mud on his head (hat), and crawl out further till a bigger wave would push him back. He would go all wide-eyed, but then we would grab him and he would laugh. We ate lunch on the beach, and he chased sea birds and made friends with everyone who would talk to him. X) He didn't like it when we left though. He was hot and tired and didn't want to leave, then he got a cold shower. He fell asleep like a limp rag in Jonny's arms while I packed the car back up. Poor guy. He showered with me again at the hotel (sand-filled diaper for the win), then we rested before dinner. No jellyfish spotted (thank heavens), but Jonny and I were not too diligent in our applications of sunscreen... My left shoulder was burned to a crisp, and Jonny now has a red neck. x_x We ate at the Crab Shack on Tybee, where they had amazing sea food/shellfish plus captive crocodiles to watch. Unfortunately Peanut was too tired to enjoy any of it. He wiped-out on the way back to the hotel and slept through the night and well into the morning.
Beach Photos!!!
Biggest sandbox ever!
That is true joy on his face right there. The whole vacation was worth it just for how much fun he had. :)
(Mommy is blindingly white.)
Splashing in the deep water with Daddy. (One of those VERY rare photos of Jonny.)
Thus on Saturday we had a late start out to Savannah. We got to the tour parking around noon, but the trolley tour was really worth it. We got to see most of historic Savannah, and learn a lot about the history. Jonny and I just soaked it all in. Peanut slept. XD
I really fell in love with that city. I have been to a lot of historic places, but that one is truly romantic (and not in the cheap cheesy sense). So beautiful, and so easy to picture it as it was 100 years ago or more. We ate lunch after the tour, which unfortunately took FOREVER thanks to an incompetent staff. We bought some fabulous gelato next, which I promptly dropped on the hot sidewalk (and my pants) on our way to River St. :(
We really didn't get to SEE all the amazing things we wanted to, or take photos. It was so horribly hot and humid, and everything was so spread out. After walking and shopping for about an hour and 30min we were dead and felt like horrible parents torturing our son (who just wilted in the heat despite being the only one riding in shade). My being as pregnant as I am didn't help. So at 5:30 we made it to our bus stop and went back to the car. We drove around trying to find an open book store so I could get a book on Savannah, but every one was closed. SUCK! So we went back to the hotel and went to a nice quiet dinner nearby. Peanut was a happy boy by then thank goodness. :)
Jonny and I later agreed that along with the beauty and romance of Savannah, there is also a strange eerie feeling that surrounds it (the historic district). It feels very temporary, like it is all past with no future. Creepy. c_c
The drive back was not too great. We were all so sick and tired of the car. But Peanut slept a little, and we stopped to stretch our legs here and there. It was a lot of fun, but it is SO GOOD to be home!
There is my update! If you ever get a chance to see Savannah, DO IT! Just give yourself at least 3 days to tour it, and go in the spring or fall. u_u
