Ukitake helps Yylfordt position, calm and center himself for kido practice during one of their private training sessions at the Ugendo estate. Yylfordt is only in disguise as a shinigami student and enrolled in the Academy as one. He is still physically the arrancar he was originally created to be (hence the hat).
I drew a scene from Solace, my story, originally written for the BleachBigBang that follows the relationship built between Ukitake and Yylfordt (romanticized as Il Forte in both stories, I am getting used to the new spelling usage) that could not properly be explored in the parent story Redemption, due to the fact it would derail my plot. Even though Solace may never make it to type (due to the computer crash, losing my entire beginning because I had no handwritten for it, and due to my efforts being on Redemption) this scene stuck in my head for months and prompted the art.
Even though I used an inking pen I wasn't able to get as fine details as I wanted, I am extremely happy with this piece. It has captured everything I wanted to show of the two of them and despite it being only my second picture (first was a shitacular pen portrait in the margins of Solace) of Ukitake and done without a photo reference, came out very nice.
