I was just gonna come on this here internet thing and writeabout the banalities of the last couple of weeks, but I've just checked my emails and found that a friend of mine from the 1st and 2nd years of Uni died on Tuesday crashing his scooter on the way back to his nans. Just writing, to express my shock also. I might have seen Ben before he went on a holiday this year in fact, and agree with you when you say, he had this sort of inner light, an aurua of unscathed positive innocence. Rarely I suppose have I met someone so positively eager about things. I guess in a way this made it harder for me to connect with him on that level because, like you, as much as I admired it, it appeared unattainable, something I thought myself so far away from. Looking at the particulars of the Indian faith he believed in, its easy to see perhaps why Ben was the way he was, or why he was drawn to it. I admit I haven't thought of Gentle Ben much since my university days and now upon hearing of his death, ive spoke of nothing else all night...it seems so how stupid to say things like "I wish I had known him better" cause frankly I had my chance, and for whatever reason, I did not...but yeah, inspite of such things, by anyones admission, Ben was a good person you know ( ... )
