I always find it interesting

When people want to pick and choose the parts of the Bible they want to follow.  I should give away all my money and criminals should not be punished for their crimes, because Jesus said to help the poor and turn the other cheek.  But that whole no sex before marriage or adultery, or LYING thing?  Oh, don't worry about those!  Someone who doesn't ( Read more... )

It bothers me when either side tries to twist it...of course...I'm not sure how much of it I believe anyway.

It seems to me that someone (not you), can't make up their own mind...they're merely toeing the party line.

I completely agree. Anyone who blindly follows anyone/anything has problems in my eyes. I read as much as I can and make my own decisions. I don't agree with everything Conservatives or Republicans or any Right-leaning people say and do, but I've spent a lot of time studying and that's where I fall on that imaginary spectrum.

But to some (such as the people you're referring to) that means I automatically get lumped in with people who act as sheep and don't investigate for themselves.

Baaa. :-)

I'm fully with you...I just happen to fall to the right of moderate on *most* things, but quite honestly it has nothing to do with the religion I was raised with. I started making my own decisions a long time ago. Classic example: I don't disagree with abortion because I was raised Catholic...it bothers me because I got an A in biology and scientists tell me that everything about a child that CAN be genetically determined is determined at conception. To me, that says that it's a baby...not a fetus. However, I don't think abortion can be outlawed because that would just bring back dangerous illegals abortions. So...we come to regulating it. But see how I came to my own conclusion on that?? According to some...I'm incapable of that sort of rational decision making ability.

I hear ya. I don't make my political decisions based on my religion either, but I DO know what my religion teaches. I am Pro-Life, but I believe abortion is a State's Rights issue and THAT is why Roe v. Wade should be overturned. I don't see abortion being outlawed ever again, and I agree it's better to have safe, regulated abortions than to have back-alley butchers killing women who don't want to have their babies.
