They are most impressive of course when they're pointing at your face. Also, I don't think the kagitsuki naginata looks like much until you put the kagi in. Then it gets teeth. But boy, I do love these weapons.
I've seen purpleheart suburito at quite a few dojo; I'm not sure whether this is a newer invention or "koryu-kosher" or not.
It's beautiful and people have said it's okay for kumitachi, but in my experience it holds up less than shirokashi or the wood that Kingfisher Woodworks uses, alpine hickory. I recently acquired a couple of pre-owned battle-tested bokuto and there was definitely more denting in the purple one.
