I know there are a fair amount of you idiots that have the venerable and lovely Sony 530D Dvd player... have any of you been succesful in getting the dvd player to read VCDs burned on a cd-r

I think I had the same one, and I replaced it for the same reason. I only ever found ONE brand of cd-rs that worked in it (as cd-audio or vcd). They were the generic circuit city brand, but they use a different manufacturer now.

I replaced it with an NS400D (I think). It worked well with everything.

you indeed did have the same one - as you were there the day that i bought the dvd player...it was your recommendation on the 530d that got me to buy it..
