From the transcript of the speech:

"We seek peace. We strive for peace. And sometimes peace must be defended."

I think they preserved W's meaning well enough.

Sadly the world's view of peace is skewed, I'm not sure anyone really gets what peace is anymore and so they are striving for something they can't even recognize. As in many venues the government has a skewed one way view, interesting how the country continues to run when the thing they are striving for has no definite place to exist in their minds! Sadly humans will have to continue running governments though.

example that took me all of 5 seconds to think of: Robert E. Lee surrenders to U.S. Grant, and lo! the war is over and we all get to move on/ahead; rebuilding, bandaging up the rift between the North and South.
