Actually, it doesn't even do that. This entire line of so-called "logic" is based on a false premise, to wit, that the Roman Alphabet (and thus, Latin as spoken/written in ancient Rome) had no "U", and that it used "V" interchangeably. This fallacy is derived from the existence of numerous STONE-CARVED writings within the District of Rome where, as a form of sculpting shorthand, the "V" form was used so as to avoid one more curved letter. This was common ONLY in that medium, NOT in the common written language, and usually not in any official proclamations.
Thus, you are left with:
CLDI = 100+50+500+1 = 651, which is a very poor relation to the Beast, some minor, petty imp at best. Which explains the fat belly, but very little else.
