<.< >.> Graphics Tablet Update

Feb 01, 2013 07:44

After posting this and reading what everyone had to say, trolling Tumblr for reviews, watching YouTube videos, reading Amazon reviews, I bit the bullet and ordered it. I figured, if I couldn't get a lot of use out of it, I could always just sell it on eBay -- it's not going to be at the same price, but at least I wouldn't lose all ~$65 on it ( Read more... )

There was a moment of panic when I realized my old address was still listed as the default in Amazon -- I hadn't used it to buy anything that needed to be delivered physically until now. I'd just emailed my last landlord to let him know it might show up, but luckily the delivery guy called me and luckily I actually picked up the call (bc I don't if I don't know the number), and he told me he was at the old address and I said I was only a block east so I could run over, but he was nice enough to actually deliver it to my new one. \o/

That was nice of him! AND GLAD IT DIDN'T GET LOST IN THE MAIL I worry about that sometimes.

Yeah, it really was! I actually have pretty good experiences with the mail people in my area (like, not the ones at the post office) -- the mail lady who goes to my building now also goes to my old building and somehow recognized me after I moved, so she automatically brings mail sent to the old address to the new one. Glad you sorted out the tablet and, more importantly, you're enjoying it :)

What kind of brushes do you use in Photoshop?

Me too! :)

And for this one I used Stumpy Pencil for the line art and also coloring in the face and the shadows, but got lazy and just filled the rest with paint. XD I think it worked for the style of the artist I got Stumpy Pencil from, so I might experiment with other brushes to find something I really like. What do you use?

My brush mix is really eclectic, which is probably because I find them by googling photoshop paint stroke brushes and seeing what I find. I have maybe 400 or 500 brushes? Some are stamp brushes - the watercolour strokes are often stamps - and others are more like your regular brush. I mean, really it depends on what you want them to do - I have a lot of brushes like Stumpy Pencil, which I use for sketches, but if I want to work on more of a 'painting' then this is the brush that I use most often:

Ooh, what paintbrush is that? The result is gorgeous -- I could never do hyperrealistic (or even anything close to realist, let's be honest) but I would love to play with blending colors!

TY for the link! I'm bookmarking all the tutorials I can find. :D

I like the anime-style eyes XD

(But I know nothing about drawing so can't help there)

Anime style is like, my first and only drawing style tbh. XD I have been trying to avoid it but tbh I don't know how else to draw eyes? LOL.

Drawing on the tablet while looking at the screen takes some getting used to, Some friend of mine have tablets and my frist reaction was "HOW CAN YOU DRAW W/O LOOKING AT THE "PAPER" xD

Thanks to colouring with my mouse I have get used to using it - I am really proud of this http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt43/_Dalie/herbcopy_zps6c83e5c0.png-

Shadow...How do I make shadow... What I do pick the same colour and then make it darker. Talking about layers... to add filters I duplicate the finished piece, add a filter and then lower the opacity of those layers, so I can have more than one style going on. Also, if you don't like how a certain part of the drawing looks with one of those layers, you can just erase that part :)

Btw, great start <3

Oh man, I would get SO FRUSTRATED coloring with a mouse. It is a LOT of work. I really like that image though! Her eyes especially are fantastic. :D Do you scan in the line art and color it in after? Because this was what happened last time I tried that, lol.

That's what I do with the shadows too, but like, I have a harder time figuring out where they should fall, I guess. I'll keep the layers tip in mind! I only did like a texture overlay but didn't play much else with the effects. :P

Thank you! :D

colouring with a mouse takes patience. I did the Hermione -it is her, I swear! xD- with my mouse, from scratch xD. The good thing about drawing digitally is that you can change, move parts of the drawing, center the nose, mouth etc. I am very sketish when I draw, never clean, and I usually don't make clean linearts because then the drawing looks empty. So I scan, clean it a bit, though I don't colour the lineart,I might change the tone/saturation, a bit so it looks kind of browish.

I have embraced the "down shadow" policy. I place them below the eyebrown, eyes, etc. I also paint it on the tip of the nose.

No I know it's her! :D

What's the down shadow policy, exactly? Never heard of it, always interested to know more! :P
