Nurses wheeled Dottie down the hallway to her mother …
They placed the baby on her mother’s chest. Mother and child gazed into each other’s eyes for several minutes. She smiled at the baby who at last lay in her arms.
Until the very end I honestly thought this article was tongue-in-cheek black humor. "She’s a woman who lived out pro-life principles as purely as is possible. She gave her life for them." As in, she DIED? And that's... as pro-life as possible? HAHAHAHAHAaaa... oh wait, you really MEANT that?
definitely honest - women dying really IS the purest form of being pro-life.
I wonder if Ms. Crim knew she was going to be made into a pro-life poster child. I think this article totally misunderstands the situation. Ms. Crim desperately wanted a child; she was willing to die to have one. I've been there. It doesn't mean I'm not pro-choice. DUH. Ms. Crim wasn't making a political statement, but a personal choice.
And the one person in the comment who is sensibly saying, I respect her choice, but this should not be used for political purposes and a person is DEAD which is not a reason to celebrate, is being skinned seven ways to Sunday. I really despair. How can one possibly reason with such people?
You wrote what I was struggling to say in much better words. Reminds me of the woman who was canonized as a Catholic Saint for choosing to die of uterine cancer rather than abort in 1962. If you want to believe it's the only choice, good, but make it an example of what all women should aspire to? Fuck you. That's the lowest of the low.
Honestly, if this woman wants to die so she can bring a baby into the world that she'll never raise, whatever. Not a choice I can even understand, but okay.
Using this woman's choice to say that all other women should be *forced* to do the same thing is so fucking crazy I can't even fathom. If you actually believe this is such a great thing, and such a huge demonstration of love, just think - would it still be a demonstration of love if she'd had no choice?

I can understand it. She took a risk that was worth it to her. If you're a person who has struggled with infertility you can understand how aborting a pregnancy that you finally were able to achieve after years of effort - and you'll probably never have another chance at - may be unthinkable, even if your life is at risk otherwise.
In other words, if she'd aborted, she'd've been miserable for the rest of her life. This way at least she had a chance at happiness.
But:

Yeah, and yay, motherless children. After all, orphan-hood is so romantic. Must be great to grow up being told by smiling faces that you killed your mom. 0_o

No one said a word. No one had a dry eye.
Stacie Crimm died three days later.
Thanks for the nightmares, Missionary for Life.

Consent is the difference between sex and rape.
