It's not so much that Rachel's actively avoiding the beach as she's just choosing to stay away from the water for now. Besides, she can see the water from her porch so it's not the same thing as avoidance. Not at all. And even if it were, come on. A giant toy tried to drown her. Her and her unborn fetus child. She's entitled.

As consuming as it is to be caught up in a mess of anger, it's always twice as tiring to come down from it, to hang one's hat up and call it a day, only knowing that it'll be just as necessary to go over events again in great detail later on. Mark isn't the type of person who likes to revisit his failures, and in this, in being a friend, it seems like he comes across similar hurdles on so many occasions. Stepping around problems like he's walking a minefield, trying not to drive cracks further into the ice, leave himself without ground under his feet. When he walks about the island this afternoon, it's with a dazed look, not seeing where he's going, until suddenly there's a redhead sitting right in front of him, seemingly resting under the sun ( ... )

Rachel raises her good eyebrow as both eyes open sleepily. She takes a moment to look him over for bumps and bruises before answering.

"Island shit," she confirms, sitting all the way up. "We're fine, you know...all around. What about you? Christ, did your shit try to kill you too?"

For his part, Mark has bruises littered on his skin, cuts here and there, but nothing that's required more than a brief visit to the clinic for rubbing alcohol to prevent infection. There was no small amount of temptation on his end to dive into the thick of it, armed with a foil, armed with a blade. Living on his own had his perks, but there's no doubt that he lives far away from all the people who matter most to him, and staying along during a crisis for all of that has never done his nerves any good ( ... )

"Oh, dude, please," she scoffs, waving a hand before pointing to the chair next to her. She's pretty proud that her voice is mostly steady. She's still shaken up, but nothing about it is Mark's fault. "Don't worry about it. If you check up on everyone every time something batshit happens then you'll make yourself crazy. I mean, it's just gearing up. The holidays are really weird."
