On the train out to Pittsfield, my iPod suddenly had a problem. When I press Menu, it doesn't go back. The only thing it does is say "now playing" at the top instead of the time. I don't understand because the rest of the wheel does everything its supposed to do. I can't try restoring or getting software updates or anything because I'm away and ( Read more... )

Often times ipods connected to USB 1 ports will, for reasons unknown to me, just stop working. This happened to my friend ed, at which point he called Apple's customer service. He mailed the ipod in and instead of getting it fixed, they sent him back a brand new replacement. If you can get your songs off of them before sending them in you would be best off, as your music might not be returned to you. Apple's customer service is generally pretty good, and they shouldnt give you a hard time about it.

i have all my songs backed up on an external so that's not a problem. from what I've heard they'll jsut hand me a new 20 gig. this is just really bad timing for me. do you think i should invest in some sort of USB 2.0 adaptor or something to avoid this odd problem in the future?

when Ed did it, he had a new laptop, so it wasnt a concern. You might want to talk to apple tech support before buying anything, but a usb 2.0 or firewire connection prob. wouldnt be a bad idea.

Weirdest thing, my iPod fixed itself, although I might try and pop into an Apple store at some point and ask about all this. Thanks for your help! How's Ed? One of his friends from BU lived at Fleet Street over the summer. I have to admit I'm curious about how that went but it's not really a place I want to go back to in any way shape or form.
