Fandom: Lost
Pairing: Shannon Rutherford/Boone Carlyle
Theme set: Gamma
Rating: PG-13
#01 - Ring
When he first moved to New York he told himself things would be different, and so every time the caller ID displayed the words ‘Rutherford, Shannon’ he let it keep on ringing.
#02 - Hero
Though she’d never admit, he was her hero, and she both despised and loved him for it.
#03 - Memory
He looks at her, as she lays sprawled out under the sun, and remembers the day of her father’s funeral, spent talking and toasting old toy teacups filled with scotch; he wonders where that girl has gone.
#04 - Box
The car pulled up to the drive-through of the local Jack In The Box and she screamed at him for making her eat there; the next morning she had food poisoning and she gave him a smug I-told-you-so.
#05 - Run
It was instinct to grab her hand and run; he cared more about saving her than himself.
#06 - Hurricane
The way Shannon came into his life resembled a hurricane: she barreled through and pulled him right in.
#07 - Wings
The first Halloween that they spent together she decided to dress as angel, furry white wings and all; he looks back and can’t help but laugh.
#08 - Cold
She stayed next to his corpse for longer than was probably socially acceptable, but for once she couldn’t think about what people thought about her, all she could think was how cold he felt.
#09 - Red
“I don’t want your money!” she’d yelled, the rims of her eyes turning a watery pinkish-red, and he wondered where he’d gone wrong.
#10 - Drink
He’d garnered a drinking problem over time, in an attempt to get her out of his thoughts, but all he’d ever gotten for his troubles was a headache the next morning.
#11 - Midnight
The clock strikes midnight before she’s downed enough liquid courage to go up to his hotel room.
#12 - Temptation
Right after high school he fled to New York because he knew that he wouldn’t be able to resist temptation for much longer.
#13 - View
Whenever she falls asleep with him she always makes sure to wake before he does because if she doesn’t he’ll only watch her sleep; it makes her feel like a doll on display and she hates it.
#14 - Music
Shannon always used to blast bubblegum pop music, and though Boone hated it with a passion, he never once told her to turn it down.
#15 - Silk
Sometimes, when it was late, Boone would bring his work home with him, and she could spend hours sifting through the smooth silk of the pastel bridesmaids dresses.
#16 - Cover
For years people thought it was Boone who had asthma.
#17 - Promise
Boone swore he’d always take care of her, and as he lay dying all he could think was he was about to break his promise.
#18 - Dream
It angered her the way people began to ignore Boone’s death after a week or so, and move on to other things, shoving it into the darkest depths of their minds, and pretending it was all part of some horrible dream.
#19 - Candle
Her room used to be full of candles, the sweet fragrances of jasmine and patchouli filling the air; for years afterward he would associate those scents with her.
#20 - Talent
Sabrina had told Shannon that her and her father would be unavailable the night of her eighth grade talent show, but when she gracefully landed her last jump, smiling out at the audience, it was Boone who’d ditched his date, just so he could see her dance.
#21 - Silence
The silence she gets in response to her questions and complaints after Boone starts hanging out with Locke, and gets a freaking personality transplant in the process, might be worse than all the times he’s screamed at her.
#22 - Journey
Neither of them really knew when they’d made the journey from step-siblings to lovers, it had just happened.
#23 - Fire
He went to Sabrina to get the checkbook, and then he’d be off to Sydney; she shook her head, told him if he kept this up she’d have to fire him, and then dropped the leather-covered object into his hands.
#24 - Strength
A man with strength would be able to push her away, to leave for good; he is not that man and he’ll curse himself for it everyday.
#25 - Mask
She wishes he could see through the mask she puts on when she lies to him, when she cons him out of his money, because then maybe she’d be able to make herself stop.
#26 - Ice
Boone had a girlfriend-a pretty blonde with an affinity for designer clothes-who used to call her the Ice Queen, blissfully unaware that she was merely a pale imitation of Shannon, that Boone kept around because he couldn’t have the real thing.
#27 - Fall
She’d never felt the need to watch her own back, to weigh the consequences of her actions, because she knew, without a doubt, that he would be there to catch her when she fell.
#28 - Forgotten
A week after her wedding she’d showed up at his apartment, an angry expression on her face, asking why he hadn’t come, and he’d told her simply, “I forgot.”
#29 - Dance
She’d made him take her to Homecoming, and he grumbled the entire time, through Sabrina’s disapproving look, and his friends’ teasing, but when he danced with her, whirling her around until she was dizzy, she wondered if this wasn’t exactly what he wanted.
#30 - Body
When they lowered his body into the ground she was silently thankful because that meant he’d escaped the island.
#31 - Sacred
If she ever got back, Shannon knew Sabrina would be livid when she learned of the circumstances surrounding her son’s funeral, that the burial had taken place on less than sacred ground.
#32 - Farewells
She kicks herself everyday because she never got to say goodbye.
#33 - World
World Lit was her most hated class sophomore year and she spent much of it in the back of Bobby Franks’ car; she passed it as essay after essay was handed in with handwriting that wasn’t her own.
#34 - Formal
When she was eight she’d hated getting dressed up and her father’s wedding was no exception, but somehow, when he’d smiled at her from across the room, it became her favorite thing.
#35 - Fever
It was him who ended up taking care of her when she ran an one-hundred and one degree fever in sixth grade, not their parents.
#36 - Laugh
They laughed together in the bright sunlight, and he glared at Sayid, at the same time he pitied him, because the man had absolutely no idea what he was getting himself into.
#37 - Lies
He lay himself down on the airline blanket, feeling her hands fumble in the dark before they found him, as he spoke, “It’ll be okay, rescue will be here in the morning.”
#38 - Forever
Shannon had never apologized to him, never said she was sorry for all the crap she’d put him through, because she thought she’d have forever in which to do it.
#39 - Overwhelmed
The entire flight back to L.A. he fought with his overwhelming urge to kiss her.
#40 - Whisper
She knew about the whispers but never really believed that it was anything more than someone’s mind playing tricks on them-then she started hearing Boone’s voice calling to her and she stopped trying to deny that they existed and started listening.
#41 - Wait
Boone wasn’t sure why they waited until that night in Sydney, just that before then they’d never actually done the deed.
#42 - Talk
Shannon had once made the mistake of telling a friend about her and Boone; she heard the gossip in the halls for weeks afterwards.
#43 - Search
Later on, Shannon can pinpoint the search party for Claire, when Boone had volunteered to go with Locke, Kate, and Jack, as the time when he first started pulling away from her.
#44 - Hope
Part of her hopes they never get off this island because this might be the only place they can make amends.
#45 - Eclipse
When he’d hung up the phone, Nicole just stared at him, gripping hard on her tennis racket, and said, “You ever notice how Shannon’s needs seem to eclipse your own?”
#46 - Gravity
Boone was like gravity to Shannon; he always brought her back down to earth.
#47 - Highway
It wasn’t until there was three thousand miles of highway between them that she really realized how much she needed him.
#48 - Unknown
She had no idea why he chose to love her, not some girl who he could be happy with, who would give him the love he deserved, but fake, imperfect her.
#49 - Lock
He’d forgotten to lock the door, and seconds after he’d closed it Shannon’s dad had poked his head in, spotting his daughter with Boone’s hands half up her shirt, and walking out without a word.
#50 - Breathe
It was her warm breath, tickling his ear, not his alarm clock, that woke him the day he graduated high school.
