AH!! It's still awesome and perfect and tense and amazing. I didn't realize JUST how much I missed this series. A whole fucking lot, turns out.
Also this

“No,” he replies, a touch of exasperation in his tone. He’s fielded that question before, evidently, and still thinks it’s a ridiculous notion. “He didn’t seem like the type.”

She’s not fond of the implication behind that statement. “And what type is that?”

“You know.”

“Mr. Woodcomb, the man who makes my coffee three times a week doesn’t know what I do for a living, but I know where his nephew went to college and what kind of books he likes to read in his spare time. Getting to know people without letting them get to know you, not seeming the type, that’s all part of the job description.” His mouth opens and then falls closed again, having thought better of it. He looks vaguely ashamed, and that should be enough for her to let it go. Today, it isn’t. “But that’s not what you meant. You meant he didn’t seem the type to kill people.”I love this. Feels a bit like a little jab at ( ... )

It's a total jab at the spies can't be "normal" crap they liked to beat us about the head with. I hate that perspective, especially coming out of the mouth of the dude with a computer in his brain, but I think that it's an interesting point of conflict for spy vs. civilian characters, and obviously Chuck can't represent it in this universe given his background. Therefore, Devon, who was one of the more normal, well-adjusted characters in canon and, prior to the events of this series, in this universe as well, and who then spent eight months or so exposed to some pretty brutal people, whom he knew were aligned with the CIA, and whom further altered his concept of what a spy is. So at this stage that probably looks like a slightly gratuitous throwaway line about what it takes to be a killer but down the line, when he's forced into this world, it's something that I think will be on his mind more, if that makes sense? Idk, I just have a lot of thoughts on Devon and how much I wish he had half as much depth in canon as he does in my head ( ... )

yooooo so i stopped reading the other night bc i was like "gotta go to sleep" and then when i continued last night i realized i had only been a few paragraphs from the end which was TERRIBLE because i wanted more. duuuude i'm so excited to see where this goes. like you've already told me where it goes, but it's going to be so much fun to watch it play out.

i know you were worried about writing devon but i think devon felt like devon here. or what devon would be like in this situation. (dude i'm so bad at feedback which is why i'm terrible at commenting on fics) i could totally see him in that scene. obviously he wouldn't be talking like he did on the show (and thank god you didn't do that, not that i think you would have, but still just thank god) but his body language and all of that felt super on point.

ALSO THAT STUFF YOU AND DAYLN ARE SAYING ABOVE ABOUT THE NORMAL LIFE STUFF: YESSSSSS
