Author's Note: This is my answer to that
1sentence prompt I've been taking my sweet time on. Prompts are in chronological order.

#01 - Comfort

It’s of much comfort to Alex that even after the ill-advised kiss in the stairwell of Seattle Grace Izzie doesn’t push him away and instead just lets things go back to the way the were.

#18 - Speed

“I didn’t mean never,” she informs him one night, unprovoked, and she isn’t lying; things were just going too fast and it was too soon.

#39 - Smile

She’s got the biggest smile on her face the day Bailey finally decides to quit making her jump through hoops, and to him it’s one more step back to normalcy.

#20 - Freedom

That night is spent at Joe’s bar, in celebration of her newfound freedom and when she finally decides to call it a night they are the only two left of the group they started with; he calls her a cab because he’s in no shape to drive her home.

#09 - Telephone

Izzie calls him from outside the bank one afternoon, after she tried to cash the hefty check Denny left her and only succeeded in breaking down in the middle of the line, telling him, “I can’t do this by myself.”

#06 - Rain

The look he receives from Sloan as he all but abandons the case he’s finally been put on and steps out into the rain on the way to his car makes him stop and wonder if she’s worth all of this; in the end he’s gunning it down the highway en route to the bank.

#35 - Bonds

Izzie wonders when the bonds between them grew so strong that she dialed the number to his cell, not George’s, without giving it a second thought.

#33 - Fear

“If you care so much about her then why did you cheat in her in the first place,” Meredith asks because, as usual, she can read him like a book; it’s not fear of commitment, he thinks, but more a fear of turning out like his father.

#22 - Jealousy

When it all comes out that Alex has been sleeping with Addison Montgomery ex-Shepherd this entire time, Izzie is unpleasantly surprised by the pangs of jealousy she feels, even though the demise of their relationship was the reason the news got out in the first place.

#49 - Hair

Post Addison, it’s blondes he picks up at the bar that end up in his bed, but his attempt at taking his mind off the woman he wants most but can’t have only makes him long for her more.

#36 - Market

Not long afterwards he starts telling those women that he’s off the market and decides that he can settle for being just friends with Izzie right now because the real thing is always better than the imitation.

#07 - Chocolate

George gets wrapped up in Callie, and his dad, and next thing Alex knows he’s become Izzie’s baking buddy too, spending long nights in the kitchen with her until they both get sick off of the chocolate.

#29 - Melody

He spends the night on the sofa once when he’s just too tired to go back to his apartment and when he awakes the next morning to the sound of her melodic laughter he finds he prefers it to his alarm clock.

#45 - Hell

When the other interns begin to notice the inordinate amount of time the two of them spend together he catches hell from them about not hurting her again.

#31 - Home

The first time they end up at his place she has the sudden epiphany that, despite knowing him for close to a year now, she’s never had any clue where he lives.

#10 - Ears

She shows up at his door just before midnight two weeks later complaining that she can’t go through another night of Meredith and Derek’s late night romps; even so it feels like an excuse to both of them.

#46 - Sun

Long before the sun rises the next morning she’s awake and in the shower using all of the hot water, and when he hears her on the shower with George asking him to bring something for her to change into when she leaves the hospital later Alex knows he’s going to get interrogated by the other man sooner rather than later.

#03 - Soft

He discovers his IOWA shirt has gone missing two days after her stay and it isn’t until he sees her wearing it that it occurs to him that she just wore it to work and never gave it back; it’s softer than anything she has is her only defense.

#16 - Weakness

Sometimes he asks himself what the hell he’s doing here and what exactly he thinks he’s going to get out of this platonic relationship they’ve got going but Alex has always had a weakness for the unattainable.

#11 - Name

The fact that the more time he spends around her the more his vocabulary begins to resemble hers does not make him a happy camper, especially when he nearly slips and refers to Derek Shepherd as McDreamy.

#05 - Potatoes

Izzie may be an excellent baker but she is completely clueless when it comes to anything with nutritional value; this he got to experience first hand the time her mother showed up and he watched Izzie manage to burn everything, including the potatoes.

#02 - Kiss

At some point Izzie must’ve decided that enough time had passed since Denny’s death because it wasn’t him who initiated their next kiss.

#50 - Supernova

If Alex was someone who thought in metaphors there might have been something about supernovas exploding behind his eyes when her lips met his that night, but Alex wasn’t that kind of guy and he didn’t do cheesy metaphors.

#32 - Confusion

The ensuing week left them both in a state of confusion and awkwardness over what the kiss meant and where things stood between them now.

#14 - Sex

Fortunately for both parties involved, the aforementioned week culminated in sex that went significantly better than the first time they’d tried it.

#23 - Hands

Alex’s hands shook as they slid over her skin, and it both unnerved her and made her curious as to what he was so scared of.

#40 - Innocence

Izzie was a different person in certain respects than she had been before-and he noticed he thought about a lot of things in terms of before and after-something he attributed to a loss of her innocence.

#04 - Pain

The part about intimate relationships that he hated was you tended to argue a hell of a lot more; he wondered if ending things when they could still be called a phase would wind up saving them both a lot of pain.

#13 - Death

You could never beat a dead man, Alex realized with some resignation, there was no use telling himself otherwise.

#47 - Moon

In the moments where it’s quiet and they’re tangled up in the sheets, moonlight casting a soft glow on bare skin, he thinks this is about as close to perfect as he’ll ever get.

#38 - Gift

Of all the people Izzie was close to she never Alex would be the only one of them that had the gift of knowing just what to say to make a bad situation better, if only for a little while.

#43 - Sky

He can be incredibly possessive something that is made crystal clear to her every time Sloan openly makes a pass at her with him in plain sight and she watches Alex’s eyes darken like the angry sky.

#21 - Life

There’s something about spending all day, every day in a hospital, surrounded by death, that makes her feel that much more alive when he’s inside her.

#26 - Forever

“There’s no such thing as forever,” she says in an attempt to discourage him from making promises he can’t keep.

#27 - Blood

He’s learned that rather than fighting her on this it’s easier to just bite his tongue and ignore the blood that results; it’s fitting because it all comes down to that corpse that just won’t leave them alone.

#15 - Touch

It’s remarkable how just the slightest touch from her makes him completely forget what he was doing barely a minute ago.

#37 - Technology

Every now and then he’ll find himself being paged to the on-call room for an impromptu make-out session, that usually progresses far beyond, and later he can hear Bailey muttering about interns who can’t keep it in their pants.

#28 - Sickness

There’s one day where Izzie looks especially pale and he notices that she’s acting a lot like someone who has the flu which for someone who has served their time on the gynie squad isn’t something to be overlooked.

#48 - Waves

Relief and embarrassment come in waves when she tells him it is literally the flu and questions why he seemed so worried in the first place.

#30 - Star

Alex should’ve known that George had a breaking point, after all he’d found it once before, but still he pushed and taunted; shortly after the other man punched him hard enough that he’d seen stars, Izzie handed him an ice pack for his face to reduce swelling and shook her head as if to say ‘I told you so’.

#19 - Wind

Her newfound method of getting what she wants is to wind him up and then withhold sex until he gives in.

#12 - Sensual

The arrogant part of Alex, the part that makes everyone see him as an asshole disappears when they aren’t in public, and she discovers he’s actually a very sensual person.

#42 - Clouds

There’s one particular day when the clouds roll in, darker than he’s seen in a long while, and if he was like Meredith or Izzie he might take that as a sign of impending doom or some such, instead he passes it off as just another rainy day in Seattle.

#34 - Lightning/Thunder

They get into a fight right after dinner-about what he can’t even figure out-and by now it’s thundering loud enough to shake the house.

#44 - Heaven

By the time the house is silent they’ve had it out over just about everything from her wishing he wouldn’t act like such a jerk to people all the way to him feeling like he’s always being compared to Denny; by that time Alex has stormed out of that house, all delusions of heaven shattered.

#17 - Tears

There are seven messages on his machine, all from her, tones ranging from angry to tearful, all telling him to come back.

#25 - Devotion

When he actually does end up going back, and not turning off his machine just to spite her, he chalks it up to devotion, something that’s brand new to him.

#24 - Taste

She tastes alcohol when she kisses him, and she welcomes the bitterness as she channels the remnants of her frustration into this act, hoping to put this fight behind them.

#08 - Happiness

With everything out in the open-and in time resolved and put to rest-he’s surprised to find himself quite content, even happy.

#41 - Completion

Somehow the couple least likely to make it was the only one still together long after their internship was over.
